(July 8, 2020, 1:09 pm)Akhenaten Right but in all fairness, some have taken action while others have shrugged. All you have to do is look at the statistics and it's pretty clear...

What's pretty clear here is that the statistics mean nothing at the end if nearly every country is seeing fluctuating amounts of cases, whether they took action in January or not.
Eh, some countries are clearly doing much better than others and it correlates pretty well to the action taken. Brazil, USA, the UK have all been hit much harder than countries that didn't initially deny the severity of Covid-19 (and continue to do so in the case of the USA and Brazil). But it's true, most countries have much room for improvement. Including my own (Canada), although due to our healthcare system and the early response in my province at least things have not been nearly as bad even in the populated centres (so far).

That doesn't absolve the uniquely shitty leaders from other countries for dropping the ball harder than everyone else though.

My half-sister and her boyfriend who are both healthy and middle-aged (40s range) recovered from mild COVID cases, they believe in late June they caught it in those reopened, then reclosed restaurants in So CA. The US just had 3 million cases and the world had 12 million, not surprised if my half-sister is the hallmark case. My great-grandma (1905-1999) on my own mother's side (my half-sister has a different mother) lost her father in the 1918-19 flu pandemic, one of the estimated 50 million lives lost. My reason to avoid non-essential activities and business, plus I work at a grocery store who was trained on preventive methods to not catch nor spread Coronavirus, good tips to go by in these trying times.

Guys, I’m from Brazil and the thing here is:

1) the president is a cunt that loves Trump and opens his legs for Trump. He closes his eyes for all coronavirus and, apart from a auxiliary money he’s been giving to the people, nothing else has been done.

2) he makes it worse because he’s not defending social isolation. In fact, he defends economics matters and big companies interests.

3) we’ve been running with no Health Minister for more than a month because no one wants to accept the role only to employ Bolsonaro’s policies against social isolation.

4) his supporters are so radical, that they attack our high court, our deputies and anyone that wants to fight against them. With no fair reason at all.

5) even with huge numbers of covid cases day by day, the government has been demanding economic activity to reopen, because of political lobby.

6) state governors have been reported due to buying overpriced hospital equipment, corruption here is something normal to see. We watch this news every single day.

7) people don’t give a fuck to social isolation. Don’t give a fuck to using masks, don’t give a fuck to hands sanitizer.

At least your leader is not budding heads with a guy who knows his science. I'm from the US & Trump tells the people the opposite while the Governors are running the show. I live in New York within the US and Cuomo is doing a better job at opening the state better than Trump is doing with the country. I know your pain

it's not even the governors running things anymore, because some of them are Republican stooges who keep towing the party line... the buck keeps getting passed down from federal to state to counties to cities. if anything, it's exposing the hugely flawed system in america where the obsession with state's rights is literally killing us. there's no overall national consistency in handling the pandemic, and the Resident (and staff) is a moron who encourages people to not wear masks and pushes easily debunked "cures".

we beat the projected death toll of 60,000 months in advance, and we're at 123,000 dead currently. at the rate we're going, i predict 400-500,000 dead by next spring.

i'm in houston, which is quickly becoming the US hub of the pandemic. it's so frustrating, because we were keeping the numbers down until that assclown Gov. Abbot decided to open up businesses far too soon.

opening the bars was the nail in the coffin. i exercise at night (3-5am), and i got to see all the packed bars after the reopenings... now our hospitals are at capacity. Abbot decided to lock down the bars again, but it's too late.

i feel like all the effort i made as soon as this started (wearing gloves and masks everywhere, sanitising everything that comes into the house, not eating out, social distancing, only leaving the house for essentials) has been all for naught, that they've been negated 1,000x by irresponsible fools, and wilful idiots.

i'm negative for Covid. i just got my second test yesterday. i plan on keeping it that way.

the tree should have finished the job (look up Gov. Abbot and the tree).

A week or two ago I saw a video from Houston showing a line of cars ~300 deep waiting to get tested at one of the drive-in testing centers. Pretty fucked up. I'm in one of the cities whose hospitals are taking on the patients Houston doesn't have the capacity for.

The whole point of the March-May stay-at-home orders was to:

1. Stop the immediate spread of the virus, thus flattening the curve for health care
2. Buy time to build up supply of PPE
3. Buy time to ramp up mass COVID testing with rapid results, contact tracing, isolation procedures
4. Buy time to develop plans for reopening schools, businesses, government while keeping the spread of the virus under control
5. Get all of the states on the same page re: messaging (e.g. "wear a fucking mask"), strategies, etc.

The first two largely worked. The third kinda worked initially, although with test-to-results delays now stretching longer than a week it's hard to call this a success now. The fourth and fifth were complete and total failures. So yes, you're right. Everything we did from March to May - all those people put out of work and possibly getting evicted, businesses shutting down for good - was all a complete waste. And now we're way past the point that we need to do it again, yet we most likely won't.

Abbott is bad, but the line of succession behind him is worse. I'll take Abbott over Lieutenant Governor Fuckhead any day.

Oh my god, yes, what the FUCK is with Patrick? Fuck that piece of shit! I hope he gets infected and dies! I am not normally that kind of person but with the things he's said, he should be made an example of.

(Throws in political sarcasm) Welcome to Donald Trump’s America where we are always infighting with one another.

I know that the Republicans throw in party lines as the excuse but all of this is on them. Not people like Cuomo who are doing the right thing. With that I end my political rant and wish to discuss something non-political
