For the record, the whole "the protests caused the latest spike" thing is a load. States that forced their economies to re-open are the ones with the worst numbers. No correlation with the protests (where most people wore masks, mind you). Funny thing, that.

Admittedly, people have been falsely listed as COVID-19 attributed death but that is not the majority lol. Time and time again, @check347 , those claims have been busted by even bipartisan officials. This is not political to me. It is between reasoned evidence from academic study, reports from private/public healthcare officials and a gross denial attributed to what all the media outlets no matter their politics jetted out before it was deemed a pandemic.

I’d recommend you take a look at an earlier post I made here comparing the mortality rate and hospitalization rate of the 2019-2020 American Coronavirus Epidemic (in-country data) and the 2018-2019 Influenza Season. Proportionally, COVID-19’s mortality rate is drastically higher than the Flu from 18-19.

And yeah, COVID-19 blew up worldwide in January to February so there was a definite spike lol. Drastically more cases worldwide compared to Fall-Winter of 2019. Do your research, friend, and stop listening to people on any side of the political spectrum that do not backup their “facts” with actual studies, reports, and data that is peer-reviewed.

Hope everyone is doing well by the way! Just because we’ve got some deniers in here doesn’t mean we should wish ill on them. We can’t be so callous in times like these.

It is what it is. There’s just as many zealots on the Left as there are on the Right. Similar mindsets from blind-obedience, but different strategies and ideology. Honestly, I wish more leaders of the world in general were made accountable. It’s easy to focus on just one person instead of many others. Not defending Trump, I’m voting for Jorgensen. But honestly, even the EU had issues with Obama and other Presidents. No one is perfect; Yet, the politicians, above anyone else, should strive to be.

The whole “you’re either Left or Right” dialogue is truly divisive, and we can notice that mass-media loves to play that tune. Moderates are told by politicians and the media that they should vote this way or fear being branded the “other”. Says a lot about politics and mass-media from a broad scale.

With that said, both the Left and Right sides of the media downplayed COVID-19 in January and February as a new annual Flu. Both changed that quick, but differently.

All I’ll say is this: you won’t find me running for any political office lol. That’s for a different kind of human than I am lol. It’s best for people like me to keep talking no matter what it is about, within reason though. I’d just wish people would look more at where news sites and media get their data and sources from. Following the primary sources, you won’t see everything perverted by political dogma. Just raw data. Interpretation comes with the secondary and tertiary sources.

We can have an American left/right conversation when the center truly becomes the center again. Not much point in it, now. There is no "left" in America, at least not one with any actual power. Hint: that's why we're going backward and not forward in pretty much every quality-of-life measure when compared with other countries. They invest in their citizens. We invest in the wealthy, in corporations, and in the military. Sometimes I'm not sure where people get ideas to the contrary. Are numbers not good enough evidence anymore?

Considering half of the $4.6 trillion budget goes to Social Services like Medicare, Social Security, and stuff like that, I think it is still fair to say that there is Left influence. Everything Democrats have done go along that line. But lobbyists are the true issue, in my opinion. There should be no need for lobbyists, in my opinion. The constituency and electorate are good enough for me.

“Too big to fail” bailouts bother me, and that came with the 2008 Recession and the COVID-19 Pandemic.

I’d argue that more extreme politicians will Become popular. People that mimic Bernie’s disposition and the Fundies on the Right will come out. In truth, Trump isn’t as far-right as you can go. And Biden is a moderate Democrat who has supported “tough on crime” for decades until he suddenly seemed to switch when he wanted to run for the Presidency.

The term you are looking for here is "excess deaths" - the number of people who die, for any reason, above what is "expected".

The CDC is estimating that since late March about 130,000 more people have died than the average number of deaths that was expected during that time. Another way to read this means that 130,000 people died when they wouldn't have died otherwise. Some of the deaths included in this count are only preliminary since reporting here can lag behind the deaths, but that number is awfully close to the current 135k COVID death count.

You can choose to believe these numbers are fake, in which case we are at an impasse. You can choose to believe that an extra 130k people have died in car crashes or from cancer or whatever else. Or you can make the infinitesimal logical leap that any reasonable person would make and assume that 130k people actually died from COVID or complications related to (i.e. primarily caused by) COVID.
