I like how people are taking the CDC and WHO's words as gospel, despite even them not knowing how to beat the virus. And then they criticize anyone who takes Trump or any other secondary source seriously. But that's what happens when weak-minded people encounter fear.

Based on the comments in this thread, I'd say we're on the same course. Many Americans are of the "not my problem" variety (I say this as a Texan, which is arguably worse) and aren't really concerned about who gets hurt. Woo woo, freedom...

fellow Texan here, i've seen too much of that "but MUH FREEDUMZZZZ" talk from some types here in my fair city. yesterday after i left my work (which is now closed to the public), there were people crowding the ice cream shop, bougie burger joint, and Torchy's Tacos down the street like nothing's wrong... myopic fools.

You gave enough of a shit to "check in"

It's not that we don't care, we just don't want this virus to be used as an excuse to curtail the freedoms we fought for and rightfully enjoy. One thing history will tell you is that governments are capable of anything. Don't be so quick to give up your freedoms for the sake of promised security. And who's to say that there won't be another virus or another communicable disease that conveniently shows up next year and gives governments around the world an excuse to enact measures to "protect public health".

Then there's the impact this virus business has had on the economy. There had been talks of a possible recession but, that seem unlikely given how strong the US economy had been. Now this virus comes along and now we very likely going into a recession. The timing is interesting to say the least.

My business has taken off. Probably has more to do with the stock market than the Virus, but hey

Guys, I know a lot of people in “The Media.” Anchors, producers, and production crews alike. ALL of them will tell you that “The Media” DOES spit bullshit and fear monger sometimes, just for the sake of views and ratings.

This is not one of those times. This is the real deal.

They’re not trying to whip up a storm to gain clout. They’re all TERRIFIED right now. NONE of them want to work right now, but they have to keeping reporting every update because the alternative is no information about Covid 19 being put out there. Its their job to at least put info out there, so people can be informed.

I’ve seen an anchor nearly burst into tears because her mother lives with her, and she’s horrified at the idea of infecting and killing her own mother.

I know production crew members who HAVE to come in, because there’s no way for them to do their job remotely.

I know assignment desk editors who have been working since the 70’s. They know coming to work could kill them, but they either can’t afford to not work, or they come in because they believe its the right thing to do.

“The Media” isn’t full of monsters in the dark, trying to scare you. They’re people. People with families, being forced to endanger their health because their corporate bosses won’t let them stay home like everyone else.

There are some shitty people in “The Media”. But most of them are just people trying to do their jobs and keep people informed. Please stop blaming them for this. They didn’t create this new virus. You don’t have to watch them, you can use Google to look up the facts. But please, PLEASE, do a good amount a research and inform yourself.
