A little bit unrelated to the pandemic, for now, but all of this blame and distrust cashed on doctors, academics, and hospitals is very reminiscent of the whole “Anti-Vax” shit.

It’s almost like they don’t know that Smallpox was eradicated from the face of the Earth, aside from samples preserved in labs, due to global immunizations...

If there’s going to be a vaccination for this, it’s just another piece of protection aside from masks and compulsive hand-washing. Anyone who complains about washing their hands probably isn’t the brightest anyways lol.

Hopefully things get better globally and not just in the US in the coming months.

People want to live yet they don't want to wear a mask. It's like people in the past with not wearing seatbelts & thinking they will stay safe. There should be law once the vaccine comes: if you don't want to take it, sit in jail until you take it & if you dont want to take it, a decade in the clink will make you think. Idk how shows & movies are still considering filming since filming isn't essential yet. Idk why they just dont wait until the pandemic is over, what's the urgency to film? If celebrities want $ they can work at Amazon or a grocery store.

Sadly the virus is evolving, it doesnt matter if you wear a mask, wash ur hands & quarantine cus people can get sick. Its only a matter of time. The possible organ damage doesnt help (aside from memory problems & more.) I wonder if there was a movie about something like this. Wouldnt mind if Trump got sick with the virus & became unable to be in office & we got him outSmile

I've not read through the entirety of this thread, but I'm holding up ok.

My country - Scotland - is holding up fairly well. Our government has been more cautious with relaxing of lockdown than the rest of the UK has been, we're like 1-2 weeks behind the rest of the UK, but while there has been spikes in England, we're doing ok. (My friends despise the party who are in government but also despise the oppositions! I'm not into politics, but I can see that the way that things have been handled in Scotland compared to the rest of the UK will be used as leverage for the SNP to win the next election, since BoJo has been so bad at it in England)

I'm struggling a bit with living alone and not being able to to go out with friends or doing my regular sports or getting to go on my solo holidays, which is a real killer for me, since I stay in hostels and meet loads of new people and have fun, normally I'd've been on two of these so far this year, but I'm stuck at home, working, alone, with nobody to talk to, which has been really tough.

For the most part I've been able to escape into my fetishes and music, but at the end of the day, the loneliness returns.

We're now in 'Phase 3' where the 2m restriction has been relaxed, but we now have to wear a mask in shops, which is fine, but you have to remember to take a mask with you or get fined by the police, so I can be halfway into town then realise I don't have a mask so I have to go home and get one otherwise I may be fined, which isn't great since it means I'm outside for longer. Plus there are no indoor or even outdoor recreational activities which means i cannot do my usual hockey, which means my fitness has almost evaporated!

Surprise Surprise. Everyone who was bitching about Americans being the worst when it comes to wearing a mask were dead wrong.

Sorry, but this isn’t effective to draw comparisons from unless you compare the US to a country that is doing quite similar in proportionate levels of infection and mask-wearing. I’d say it is a lot more complex than that too. Culture, political policies or regulations, access to healthcare, types of society like agrarian or urban, and other things. Plus, some people might not have the access to such. I doubt a random person in the wilderness of Alaska is wearing a mask, and if they do it is to protect against the climate and not a pandemic.

I just don’t get much from this survey.

I’d rather the WHO focus on individual countries’ cases instead of standardizing stuff, however. There’s so much going on in the world than simply saying what works in England might work in Pakistan, for example.

Which is the point of the graph (and how you looked passed it, even though it was dead obvious) Many people here are claiming that the U.S and UK are the worst in the world when it comes to wearing masks, yet it's proved otherwise that there even worst countries out there.

But the Nordic countries have done quite well in comparison to the US and UK. Difference of population density matters too. Finland only has 7,000 cases or so. That’s cause enough for most of their population to say “fuck it” to the masks lol.

I was going to mention population density. For example I don't wear a mask when I go for a walk in the park, cause no one is there and anyone around I can keep a safe distance from. If I'm going to the bank or buying something though, I wear a mask because I might come closer to people.

1. Fine, you got us. We're not the absolute worst at wearing masks. Bragging about that is not a winning argument, though.

2. I don't think anyone here is specifically litigating which country is the worst at wearing masks, but rather which country is doing the worst at controlling the outbreak. If that's the argument, then fine, we're not the absolute worst (in terms of cases or deaths per 100k people). You got us. See point #1.

3. The poll question you posted, when considered all by itself, ignores a LOOOOOOOOT of context. I always wear a mask when I leave the house, unless I'm exercising. Does that count as "always"? Technically, no. Also, some of the countries on this list that don't wear masks may not necessarily be "bad" at wearing masks, they may just not *need* to if their outbreak is better than ours. For example, 64% of Australians say they never wear a mask in public. Might be because they have among the lowest deaths per 100k people. But I will admit that as long as the US is above the UK and Sweden in that poll, then fine, the US isn't the worst at wearing masks among countries that *should* be. You got us. See point #1.

Overall: weird flex, bro. Do you sleep better at night knowing we have the 9th-worst number of deaths per 100k people instead of the absolute worst? I don't. Besides, who gives a shit anyway? There is no logical way to look at this in any absolute terms and say that this country hasn't shit the bed with COVID-19. THAT is the real point that whoever it is you're trying to argue with is making. But hey, at least you punked some Internet strangers in a battle of semantics, right?
