(October 10, 2021, 6:40 pm)Way123 It's a combination of manufactors exhausting their resources and truck drivers/warehouse/retail workers getting burned out and quitting in droves. And everyone from Walmart to Costco to your local grocery store are suffering because nobody wants to work for the crappy pay that they're offering. I legit quit my job as a store manager three weeks ago to go work entry level at a computer company.

Sad part is that I'm at the bottom of the totem pole and I'm making more money, I'm happier, and I'm less stressed out than I was when I was in charge of an entire store.
Crappy pay? Everywhere I go people get-up to 16-17 an hour & depending on taxes, they can still make 14-15 an hour. FedEx is hiring for non manager positions for 16$ an hour. Fast food & everyone are paying more than they usually do.

Big problem: people don't want to work for "crappy pay" yet they want food, clothes & other shit.. well guess what, (speaking to them not you): jokes on you! People can't have what they want without working. If the pay is crap so what? Our grandparents & parents had crappy pay & they worked during Poleo, Measles & other illnesses & diseases & they still worked. Unless someone has a degree or certification, "crappy pay" is all ya got.

The company I work for is way better than my old job (the old company I worked for, for 11 years eliminated 55% of ther staff & my old boss got a 65% pay cut.)

That's because the cost of living was a lot lower when our parents and grandparents were young. People in the 60s could easily live off of $16 an hour. $16 an hour now barely gets you a decent apartment per month. And that's not even including a car note if you're lucky.

And all of these jobs that offer $16+ an hour do it for a reason, and that's because they burn through employees like it's nothing and have to up the price so most of them won't quit within the first week.

Not to mention a college degree doesn't even guarantee you success anymore, especially the way the job market is now. Grandpa Jack and Aunt Lillian only paid a couple thousand to go through college. So why do I need to pay a couple thousand just for one class? Just for a piece of paper that says that I can follow instructions? I rather bust my ass than spend the rest of my life paying off debt for a field of work that I'm not even guarantee to get into.

People finally got fed up with slave wages, just took a pandemic to push people over the edge. I’ve gotten like 3 raises in the past two months and my store owner isn’t struggling by any means, he’s actually added two more stores in the past year. It’s not a matter if most places can pay more, they just don’t want to because everyone’s had it ingrained in their heads that entry level jobs won’t account for cost of living adjustments.

As for the masks, I’m fuckin over it mainly because being fully vaccinated I feel like I’m being punished for the very small vocal minority screaming “bUt MuH fReEdOoMz”. You want your freedom to not get vaccinated? Enjoy your freedom to not enjoy everyday life in society then.

No where in the constitution does it say you have the right to knowingly endanger other people and that’s what the anti vaccine crowd is doing.

People have been knowingly endangering people before the country was even formed. It seriously took you to having to wear a mask to figure that out?

I think we need to propose a bargain:

You want to put the masks away and stop having to hear about the fucking virus? OK. Forfeit your right to take up a bed at the hospital if it knocks you on your ass, and I'll quit hounding you about a mask.

Ah, but you see, that won't work because the moment an antivaxxer gets sick, they run to the hospital so they don't fucking die. Funny how they suddenly believe in science and medicine then. Ugh. We should be months and months farther than this by now. Instead, we're talking about fucking booster shots. I'm so done.

As for the virus: our Trump ran government didn't think to warn us because they didn't see the danger. If they did things would be better. They obviously knew but were probably paid to keep it secret. All my family thinks that if we did like what Trump wanted & "did nothing & let the virus pass" then we would lose half the country. We would've recovered eventually. Btw: the old movie Contagion predicted the virus. I have asked this to people in public & ill ask it here: why hasn't anyone ever thought a virus like this was going to come?

As for money: if people want the things they want, they need to do what it takes to make the $. Guess what: if people don't want the jobs, how do they expect to get what they want? People can't think "I don't want these jobs yet I want the items I want." They will soon see what happens when you don't want certain jobs. They will either have to make an ultimatum. Having a degree does kinda guarantee you get a good job. Cus if you don't have one? Those store & fast food jobs will be ALL you can do. & you will be in the "working class" territory. Goodbye smartphone, hello flip phone & no TV.

A degree guarantees nothing because now everyone has one. They're no longer a market differentiator. Employers want to hire people who have experience, not an education. They want people who can "hit the ground running" because that's much better for the business than having to train someone. It's why job ads all offer minimum wage but demand "must have 6 years experience managing this sort of operation." And "low-skilled labor" is a myth. I work in tech and I can tell you, I couldn't build a road like the day laborers do. I couldn't deal with all the Karens in retail who think they're automatically better than I am. There are a lot of things I couldn't do, and the people who do those jobs deserve compensation that allows them to live. They shouldn't be stuck in a world where they're perpetually falling behind and watching their share of the wealth shrink year-over-year. That is severely fucked up. I have an education and a skillset, but I don't benefit at all by keeping other hardworking people down. Should some jobs pay more than others? Yeah. But not like this. Not anything like this.

Exactly. After taxes you'll only be bringing home a little under 2 grand a month. And rent alone is going to cost you $1,000 best case. Add a $200-$300 car note, gas, food, phone bill and that money is almost gone.

That's why so many people are either having to live at home even longer or get roommates just to get by.
