A Chinese woman has developed a strange condition that causes her abdomen to grow seemingly without end.

What is this called and how is this possible? Like this is really fascinating to me from a scientific perspective and a biological perspective!

Medical professional here. I seen 2 other cases like this with medical documentation on websites. One was a calcified dead fetus that died in utero. But rather than miscarrying, her body started to use the amniotic sac to start separating it from the rest of her body, becoming perfectly preserved. It was in a 3rd world area so she lived that was almost 30 some years if I remember correctly till she finally got treatment. The fetus was perfectly preserved.

The other case was from a US women (I believe in her 20s) that had a severe inflation from her abdomen every time she ate anything. What was happened on a basic level was her bowels were having some immune response that was causing massive inflammation which also lead to a lot of water retention. The condition lasted hours before the swelling would level off. She finally got treatment with immunotherapy.

There are other cases of tumors from various parts of the body that aren't cancerous. This case is likely that. Being that it's still growing by OPs statement, that's what it most likely is. Inflammation would eventually shrink somewhat and if it was something in utero it would eventually cap off.

That or she has a secret inflation fetish she isn't telling anyone.

In theory it'd be hot but she looks uncomfortable and might be dangerous so I feel conflicted. I hope she's okay.
