a "latest posts" section would be a nice feature for quick browsing. the sample link you provided is a good start.

This sounds like a solid idea - depends on implementation, though. For me, loading the most active boards (General Pictures, General Videos, occasionally Celebs/Candids/Requests) on a regular basis to scroll through all of the threads on the front page isn't very convenient, but it isn't so much of a hassle either. A "latest posts" feed is the kind of feature which would make the site feel like more of a bulletin board than a traditional forum, which is probably how a good chunk of the users use the site to begin with.
