(May 7, 2021, 8:21 pm)LTKNT101 It’s never going to happen in the U.S. because there are far too many moral Jesus fearing people led by big mouth Karens who will not be able to contain themselves if prostitution is legalized so if we want a buffet of all the pussy we can fuck and no trouble from the cops we will have to board a plane bound for Colombia.

Counterpoint, gay marriage has been legalize despite all of the bible thumpers opposing it. And weed is being legalized more and more despite whatever Karen says.

You can't blame the same people over and over again when progression is literally in your face.

Well....

When you have a profoundly catholic President with a prosecutor as a VP that then ban menthols...

Idk, man... It’s doubtful to happen from the federal level while more likely to succeed in state legislatures. But if it gets enough bipartisan support then maybe stuff like weed and prostitution will be legal at the federal level. Until then, it won’t.

I'd say give it 20 years before we start seeing legal prostitution talked about in the same way that legalizing gay marriage was in the 2010s. After all, trans issues are at the big forefront nowadays, and a lot of trans people are sex workers, so prostitution will be inevitably brought up as we try to fix deep-seated inequalities. Though that being said, I believe that this will first manifest as people trying to prevent trans people from being sex workers, but these people will face a backlash from the sex workers themselves. Also, Onlyfans is making people a lot more comfortable with sex work in general.

As prostitution and brothels slowly become more legalized in the US, I see most of them becoming coops or something similar. That way the prostitutes have a lot of control over their profession, and they can keep each other safe and lower the overall crime and violence associated with prostitution. This shit isn't rocket science America. Plenty of countries have forms of legalized prostitution and the men are women are better off than they are here.

As an aside, I'd like to state that even though we don't all necessarily seem to be agreeing on the timelines here, we do all seem to be affirmative about sex work and sex workers. And I think that's super fucking cool. Go team.

Gay marriage and “weed” are not the same as prostitution. For example gay marriage is kind of a civil rights issue and “weed” has medical applications. It was a lot easier getting those things legalized. Prostitution is considered a crime and a moral offense. Not as easy to get the support needed to get it legalized. Don’t misunderstand me. I support prostitution and have been giving ladies in the trade my money since 2007. I’m 100 percent behind getting the cops of their backs. However I don’t see this happening any time soon and it is questionable if it will happen in my lifetime.

In all fairness, all three of those issues have been opposed by reactionaries because of the supposed moral implications of their legalization. It's pretty much always the same group of people opposing social progress of any sort, and always for the same underlying reasons. I don't know about y'all, but as someone who doesn't live my life by some dusty tome written hundreds of years ago, I'm pretty tired of the people who do having so much power over the laws I'm forced to follow.

I mean i've first had seen the sex trade in the US, (I have never bought a prostitute) but I've seen the way it destroys people's lives and don't think legality will change that, so I don't think it will be anytime soon and personally don't support it's legalization, (because of what I have seen)

Keeping it illegal and forcing sex workers to be shady prevents them from receiving full protection under the law. They're people just like anyone else and they aren't doing anything wrong. They shouldn't have to hide. If you want to destroy lives, forcing them to work under the table like this is definitely the way to do it.

I respect your opinion mate however women who choose to be sex workers should be allowed to do so without their choice of profession being labelled a crime. Prostitution is a problem because it is currently classified as a criminal offense. Indeed there are unsavoury aspects that are associated with it such as drug use and the potential for bodily harm, death or being robbed. However, not every sex work transaction involves these things and the trade does not ruin every woman's life. I know several prostitutes who are doing just fine and enjoy what they do. The bottom line is a choice between two adults to do adult things with each other should not be illegal as long as certain conditions are met such as said transactions being done out of the public eye. We are all free to make choices and must also be man and woman enough to accept and deal with the consequences of said choices. I don't like smoking and it is proven that it causes cancer and kills people which is certainly destroying lives however my personal view of smoking does not give me the right to tell smokers they can't smoke. If they are in designated smoking areas while in public they can light up as they please. They are aware of the risks and are willing to accept them. It is the same with prostitution or anything people choose to do that involves risk.

i don't see prostitution ever being legalized. it never really ever was legal to begin with, and it's considered one of history's oldest professions.

back in the 1800s, when it got really popular, the loophole was the side business the head mistress ran, which was usually a hotel/brothel or bar. This is why states like Nevada sort of "ok-ed" it, because Brothels and escorts were legal (and still are i believe).

unless the whole sex trafficking side is done away with, or it can somehow be disassociated, it'll never be legal
