For the past year and a half, I have been taking a series of courses for my integral capstone in college. As the classes are just for a capstone, and are not super important to my overall degree, I have been taking them online, until this semester when the only open option was for an in person class. The professor for the class, lets call her Malory, is the same professor who I've had for the previous classes. When I walked into the class on the first day, I noticed two things. One, she was much shorter than I expected, and two, she was standing suspiciously close and tucked behind the pedestal she had her computer on. I did not think much of this, until today.

In the middle of the class today, another student asked a question about a particular image that was being shown on the projector. After a bit of what seemed to be hesitation, Malory walked out from behind the pedestal to point at something on the board with her hand on her stomach, and that is when I realized she was pregnant. She was wearing a sweater, that under any other circumstances would have been a loose piece of clothing, but in this situation it hugged her stomach. I immediately began racking my brain, trying to put together how far along she might possibly be. 

In terms of size she was very large, but there are certain things that make me think she might not be that far along. For one, I don't believe she would take on a whole new semester of teaching if giving birth to a new child is imminent, as she is a very practical person. On top of this, I believe that our university has a rule that if a professor is pregnant, she must notify the students ahead of time that she potentially needs to miss a part of the semester. Another thing that makes me even more confused is that she recently took a week off to attend a funeral in another state. This isn't entirely something that is concrete, as women can fly while being pregnant, but I am not sure if she would decide to fly if she is really far along.

I guess in conclusion, my professor is either very far along in her pregnancy, or she is having multiples, or one big baby. I'm not sure if this is interesting to anyone, or if anyone has any thoughts on it, but I felt like sharing it with you all.

It is hard to say. If I had to guess, most likely not, because we don't really know each other very well, and there isn't really a good time to do it. I suppose if I keep taking classes I might be able to establish something, but its only a small chance.

Update on the pregnant professor:

During class today, we where going over early human culture development, when we came across one of the oldest known idols of what can be perceived as a religion. The figures, which my professor referred to as "Venus Idols" where clearly the figures of women, specifically women who where pregnant, or had been pregnant. They all had wide hips, large breasts, and big, round bellies, clearly they where intended as fertility idols. As soon as I heard the mention of fertility and pregnancy, I knew Malory was going to make some sort of reference towards her own pregnancy.

One person remarked on how strange the proportions of the women where. Malory lit up, and began telling us about a theory as to why this is. She explained that the theory as to why the proportions where so strange was because the figures were most likely carved by pregnant women, in the form of their own bodies. Because of this, the perspective of a woman looking down at her own breasts and belly might skew how they think their bodies looked. This is when my professor took a step from behind her podium, and said "I, a women who is currently 8 months pregnant, do not personally see how this theory is accurate, because when I look at my own body, that is not what I see". As if to mimic the supposed view of the ancient pregnant women, she leaned back, looked down at her large belly, and basically felt up her hips, belly, and breasts. This caused several people in the class to laugh, and I went along with it, because truthfully it was pretty funny.

This was the first time we had heard anything about her pregnancy from her, and it made me realize a couple things. One, she is fairly comfortable with her body and pregnancy. Two, she will definitely not make it through the rest of the semester. She is at least 8 months pregnant, and we have around 2 months left. I am very excited, because it is not often that I get to spend a set amount of time with a pregnant women, let alone someone as big as her. If I can I will try to snag a couple pictures of her, but that might be difficult because she keeps the lights off during class.

Resurrecting this thread to say that I really appreciate you sharing your story here with the community. That idol discussion alone is one of the best things I've read here in a relayed story on Discussion in a long time, and thanks for going to the trouble to type it out and share it. You didn't get as much fanfare as I feel you deserve. Hope the rest of your time with her was awesome.

Turns out, she was really cutting it close for this semester! she gave birth over the weekend before our second to last week of school. She didn't get too big, but it was definitely an interesting experience to have her waddling around the front of the class!

As to her discussion of the self-image of pregnant women in ancient times, it should be noted that they did not have the benefit of mirrors. Or maybe she was just having fun with y'all.

Well, not mirrors but plenty of other reflective stuff like valm water or ice. The pregnant self-portrait idol is a well-respected theory in archaeology and it is haedly surprising when looking at something like Venus of Willendorf. Half of the dudes here prefer those portions in their preggos.
