Hey everyone! Hope everything is going great! Over the course of the past 2 months, I started this petition with a few friends because contrary to popular belief, waterwork has shown tremendous benefits to not only the killer whales themselves, but to the trainers as well. We believe that waterwork should come back to SeaWorld. Please sign and share with all your friends. There is a YouTube video to go along with this as well. Thank you for your support of this growing project.

Can you elaborate? I'm not sure how containing wild animals and coercing them to do any kind of work is beneficial to the wild animals. This smacks of corporate propaganda from an industry that wiped itself out due to inhumane practices, unsafe workplace conditions, etc etc. The list goes on. Plus the link looks like spam. Mods?

Agreed. I'm definitely not an expert, but I've never seen any data, or even heard any theories indicating benefits for Orcas. On the other hand, I've seen a lot of very specific data that suggests "waterwork" is misery for the whales and dangerous -even tramatizing- for the trainers.

... Possible troll?

I use to go to SeaWorld often, probably 10-15 times in my lifetime BUT, after viewing "Blackfish" I've decided that Killer Whales are much too big to be confined in such a small space... for the entire lives! Period.

I honestly thought this was common knowledge. It's no different than elephants in a traveling circus or most large animals at a zoo just as Rhinos, Hippos, and Giraffes.

Why is Waterworks important for killer whales? To maintain close relationships between trainers and killer whales, SeaWorld trainers would spend the majority of their work time (beside hourly observation, food prep, and regular dry-work training and husbandry sessions) being in the water with them. These in-water interactions not only helped build strong trusts between trainer and whale, but it also kept the whales mentaly and physically stimulated. Another benefit from waterworks is that some medical examinations require both trainers and vets to have very close contact with the animals in order to take good care of them and ensure that they are healthy. Waterworks should be brought back to mainly be used for play sessions, during husbandry sessions and medical procedures to start. SeaWorld trainers knew the potential risks with getting in the water with the killer whales. Trainers would have to have three years of mentorship and observing senior trainers doing waterwork, to gain a better understanding of killer whale behavior and creating relationships with all the whales, before even stepping foot in the water with them.

Why do whales need close relationships with trainers? Why cant they just stay in the ocean where they belong instead of us taking them, "training them" and putting them in a tiny cage for childrens amusement?
