I've been mulling over a new concept for a story that I was looking to share and get some feedback on, perhaps gauge enthusiasm for it as well.
The titles I've come up with are either, "There's An App For That" or "Pushing Notifications".
The premise is that an 18/19 year old is at a maternity store buying a gift for a friend. The only cashier is a woman in her thirties who is extremely pregnant with the latest of her many pregnancies. The girl loses patience waiting and thoroughly aggravates people waiting with her messing around on her phone and ultimately the cashier. The cashier recommends that she downloads the stores official app and gives her a code to redeem with the explanation/guilt trip that she gets an extra bonus from the store for redeeming her code and needs the bonus since she's having her latest baby very soon. She goes home and redeems the code and upon attempting to redeem the code the App pop-up asks her, "Are you positive?" She says yes and shortly receives her first notification from the App that reads, "Congratulations!!!" Redeeming the code made her pregnant. The App causes her pregnancy to advance or change with every App Notification. She grows, has cravings, goes to places like doctor's appointments, and so on because the notifications make announcements or tell her what to do. All the while everyone around her is oblivious to her escalating pregnancy until the App announces that she's 36 weeks pregnant and that it's time for it to sync. The app syncing brings her pregnancy into her real life, changing her personal life, her living situation, her relationships with friends, relationships with family, the status of other situations in her life, and identifies the man who got her pregnant as well as their relationship or lack of one, before finally changing her own mind and realigning her memories and feelings about everything. The App keeps her pregnant until it finally causes her to go into labor two weeks overdue. The planned ending would be her having sex several weeks later and the App instantly informing her afterwards that she's conceived. The App now causes her to go through repeated pregnancies and births only now the difference is she lives every pregnancy in real-time and nothing is accelerated.
That's pretty much the broad direction of everything and that's what I've pretty much figured out so far. Haven't written much else for it yet.
