Yes, but she did eventually ended up getting pregnant halfway through the film.
But I do feel like some of the fault has to go to the couple for not doing their research, or even a background check on this woman. She was even on probation at the time for credit card fraud, yet they wanted to do things under the table instead of going to an adoption agency. Also if they cared enough, wouldn't they have also gone with the woman to the doctor's appointments, or at least wanted some documents or an ultrasound to prove that it's a baby in there instead of just fat?
What the woman did was vile and disgusting, but fault also lies on the couple for being naive and not doing their homework on some random stranger before dropping dinners and gifts at her doorstep.
Edit: Also the couple was in California, while the woman was in Virginia? They seriously couldn't find anyone closer than someone who's on the other side of the country?
