"President Biden on Wednesday signed a law that would ban Chinese-owned TikTok unless it is sold within a year."

...Welp, it finally happened. Better save everything you want to keep from there just in case - this isn't necessarily the end, but it very well may be.

Yeah, it's not looking good.
US-based accounts should remain alive and accessible for at least a year. TikTok also plans to challenge the decision through the courts, so that might extend things further. In the worst case scenario, if a ban is implemented, it's likely that US-based accounts will remain on the service: remember, this "ban" only applies to app stores and TikTok should remain 100% accessible via a browser.

From what I understand, the bill doesn’t even require a sale to a US-based company, just to a non-Chinese based company. Likewise if this is indeed an app-based ban I would suspect that browser usage of TikTok will increase exponentially should this go into effect. (I also suspect that if it is a site-wide ban, there are going to be a lot of new “Canadian” users with VPN connections signing up.)
Either way, if you have content you like on there now would be a good time to start saving it, archiving it, and probably sharing it if you want to preserve the best material from there for future enjoyment.

I see this as a good thing honestly. Apart from the content that will be lost, let's not forget we still have Instagram reels and YouTube shorts as an alternative.

Good riddance. Tik Tok is cringy trash, and something new will replace it if it is banned.
There’s plenty of good preggo content elsewhere.

You should probably be doing that anyway. I have plenty of favorite videos on Instagram, TikTok and YouTube that have since been pulled offline. Its getting to the point that you might want to immediately save and archive them the moment you first see them.

I thought Trump facilitated a sale of Tik Tok during his presidency.

(April 24, 2024, 4:55 pm)alexnj I thought Trump facilitated a sale of Tik Tok during his presidency. Nope, Trump tried to outright ban it at the very end of his term. Biden revoked the impending ban a few months after he went into office. Microsoft wanted to buy them, but Tiktok's parent company refused. There was a proposal for Oracle to buy them but that never went past talks.
I also don't care for Tiktok since overall it's done more harm than good. Pregnancy content or not. Just like Vine people are going to flock to a new app anyways if/when it gets banned.

Its getting to the point that you might want to immediately save and archive them the moment you first see them. Pulling videos that they took the time to put online seems stupid. Whoever does that shouldn't put things online from the jump. Seems like poor decision making. Have any of the users ever posted any video explaining why they removed their videos? Doing so would make things less shady. People only re.ove things if they got something 2 hide. The good thing is I hope purpleflame puts certain vids online. Good thing is that the moms never know their vids are posted elsewhere.
1 thing I miss is that back then you could use ur phone or computer, hover over the vid ya want then "copy link address" would pop up so you could copy zed link. Now you have to click on the video which sucks. Idk why tiktok did that change. The last vid I downloaded the :old way" was 1st of May (I got my phone screen fixed that day.)
