(August 4, 2016, 8:02 pm)Akhenaten (August 4, 2016, 6:59 pm)SoldierOfOdin I told her I'd propose this year and put a baby in her the day she's done with college, lol.
Personally I suspect her mom is going to flake on the financial help anyway, since she's hundreds of thousands in debt with shit credit, and actually took loans out in my gf's name when she was just a baby.
These are just control mechanisms. Her mother doesn't want to cut the cord. Y'all are going to have a bitch of a time with that one if you don't establish ground rules.
Trust me, I know. So does my girlfriend. The only problem in our relationship is that she can't seem to tell her mom no. I'm trying to get her to understand that she can't cave to what her mom wants forever. She actually asks me for help standing up to her, but then collapses every time there's a real conflict, then I look like the bad guy. We were going to talk through that tonight, but now her mom guilt-tripped her into going to dinner with her instead of with me. I'm actually really pissed about it at the moment.

We actually want to get married, but her mom is making that a nightmare. Although legally there's nothing she can do, my gf is still counting on her to help with college expenses, and her mom is demanding that she vote for Hillary Clinton and become a good feminist and never marry a man who's not rich, lol. It's especially ridiculous because I make more money than her mom does, I'm just not rich.
Whaaaaaaaaaaaaaat? This nonsense is why more and more people don't take feminism seriously anymore. Well, hang in there. Maybe once your gf finishes college, you guys can get married?

Whoa! Seriously? Wow, that's a real dick move by the mother. I hope your gf's credit isn't ruined. Anyway, that's a good way to stick to the mother.

Handle that shit fast. My ex-wife's mother was a real piece of work -- a cranky, lonely bipolar piece of shit who was basically a bad decision factory. My ex grew up doing everything she could think of to keep the woman from blowing up all the time, so a lot of damage had been done by the time we met. It caused a tremendous number of conflicts in the relationship, and eventually, my ex got so fed up with her mother that she completely cut off contact for I think almost 4 years. That was probably not the best answer, but I guess she decided there was no way to keep her mother in her life and stay happy. Of course, when she left me, the first thing she did was run back to mommy. Hrrrm. Point to the story: nip this in the bud by fixing their relationship dynamic immediately, otherwise it could poison your own relationship.

(August 2, 2016, 11:57 pm)SoldierOfOdin So, I'm 22 and living completely independent, and my girlfriend is about the same age.

I want to get her pregnant as many times as we can handle it, and don't think I'd mind being a father in a few years.
So, I really really hope this relationship lasts! And these things can work out eventually. If you approach an SO with it, you just need to not be pushy, and show you value what they want as well. Awesome story! Thanks for sharing and please keep us updated!

Assuming you are both of legal age, you do not need mumsie's permission to get married. Just go downtown or to Las Vegas and just do it. People elope all the time. It will be a conflict she cannot duck. If mom objects to her moving in with you (or getting pregnant), the answer is, "Well, yeah, but we're married. This is what married people do."
Just let mom fail with college support first and you're ready to go.

That's the plan. Her mom has already flaked on the college financial help since I wrote the original post, and is currently trying to make my girlfriend feel bad for expecting anything.
We're going to sign a lease together soon and get married once we can afford it, assuming we're as compatible living together as we are spending all our spare time together. Her mom is pulling the whole "my roof my rules" thing to forbid her from dating me, but since my gf turned 18 a while ago it's honestly getting laughable. My gf is just telling her mom repeatedly to fuck off now, and also wants to get pregnant and marry me as soon as possible. She half-joking said it'd be great if we could announce both things at the same time to hopefully give her mom a seizure.

Are you sure you both want and need to get legally married? It's highly unnecessary anymore, and it's not all it's cracked up to be -- especially if things go south, which I know seems impossible right now, but...
