Probably not the right place and I'm very sorry if this repetitively annoying but what do you guys do when you have a hard drive (internal or external) that goes out and you can't fix it yourself? Partial or no other backups. No other drives, no cloud, etc. Take it to professionals? Just deal with it? It's just that I know a lot of things we all do here are not easy to find. There can be a lot of work that goes into this kind of lifestyle. Extremely difficult to replace. Thanks!

first i´ve would take it to someone to look at it but Hard drive failure usally means you have dead HDD ore SSD and the data is lost if haven´t hade any kind of back ups. even so backups can be lost aswell so i would recomend buying atleast two hard drives so you can have partions/backups incase.

You can take it to a computer repair shop (Geek Squad or some local place), and they can potentially try a couple of easy fixes that could recover your data, but no guarantee.

Then there's data recovery places, that have much better tools, but also a MUCH higher cost (usually thousands), and still no guarantee. This is not worth it unless something irreplacible of very high value is on the drive (financially or sentimentally).

Regardless, whether you can recover or not, use backups in the future! I personally don't save much on my computer, it's all stored in Google Photos (free, unlimited, sortable/shareable storage). While having it all in one place isn't really a backup.... I consider Google Photos to be solid enough that the risk is far more minimal than having it local (even with a local backup as well).

Try freezing it overnight in a ziplock bag. plug it in right away and get everything off it if it works. For some reason freezing a dead hard drive sometimes temporarily brings it back from the dead, it worked for me once and I've heard others do it in the past. Pretty much a last ditch effort before contracting out to a pro.
