Let me ask you something: if you were the manager of a store and you had an employee who was heavily pregnant, would you have her stand outside in the hot sun to sell water?

I ask because this happened to my coworker recently. I wasn't there when it happened, but she told me about it and I was infuriated. (Okay, infuriated is a strong word, but I was pissed off.) To make matters worse, she told me that he came out to check on her, and because he was concerned about her being in the sun he gave her a hat.

He gave her a fucking hat.

I know I shouldn't be upset, but I hate it when people do blatantly stupid shit like this.

Hell, today I walked down to the deli to pick up a hoagie and sat down after I ordered. Now there were two other seats but I still stood up and offered a seat to the 7-8 months along lady who ordered after me.

Your boss sounds like a dumbass.

She is supposed to be working under the safest circumstances possible while being able to perform her task as much as her pregnancy allows her too, not working under the intense temperatures during summer season!

A woman during her late pregnancy should under no circumstances be working under harsh conditions physically and mentally. The changes and hormones during pregnancy alone makes the body and skin sensitive to weather changes. And this summer heat will most certainly cause discomfort. Pregnancy while working under the sun can cause hives or worse, heat rash.

If what you say is true, then your manager is not only incompetent at his/her job, your manager is also lacking basic/critical thinking skills and completely ignoring her health, welfare, and rights as a worker who’s expecting!

Here’s what you can do.
- Take over her position outside with or without your manager’s consent.
- Have her quit if she’s forced to go outside again.
- If neither works, report your manager for deciding and committing such actions.

Any women gestating have rights that aren’t available to every worker under a normal workplace or business.
The Pregnancy Discrimination Act of 1978 and the Family and Medical Leave Act are the two major rights. She also can’t be fired because she’s pregnant nor the manager/company refuse to hire her because she’s pregnant or may become pregnant.

I'm not sure this warrants such anger. We don't know how hot the sun was or how long she had to stand in it. We don't know if she had water herself or access to potty breaks.

Pregnant women are more vulnerable in later months, but I think that mostly applies to jobs requiring strength, lifting, balance, and endurance. This wasn't the case here, was it? They aren't the fainting, delicate flowers some guys seem to think they are. Women want to work? Let 'em work.
