Most business establishments in the US have some sort of dress code and she should've known better. I do find it funny that she's using the "fat shaming" card for some sympathy points, while teaching her daughter the finer points of playing the victim. She's got a nice belly, though.

Honestly I dont see the big deal. Even for a non fetishist, that doesnt seem overtly offensive. Sure some people might not wanna see it, but I dont wanna see landwhales in yoga pants, but thats their right, and its not fair to turn them away. She probably thought she looked cute baring the belly.

On the flip side, its totally the establishments decision what they want to allow in their restaurant. I'm sure if I walked in wearing a crop top, I'd be turned away too. Sad thing is, this is just one small step backwards in women feeling confident in showing some lovely skin. Bummer.

You're not wrong, and appropriate dress code obviously depends on the kind of establishment, but there's a huge double standard in play here. This place didn't exactly look like the restaurant at the Ritz Carlton. Would they have asked a non-pregnant woman wearing a crop top to leave? If the answer is no, then why should a pregnant woman be asked to leave for wearing the same thing? Same goes for an overweight woman.

(In case you didn't notice, I disagreed with the rest of your post.)

Everywhere I go, women feel compelled to cover up any size belly in a public place, with any color or type of top, that completely covers the belly. I haven't seen a woman that happy with being pregnant and how she looks. It's hot, and she likes how she looks, kudos to her; the daughter, she can grow up thinking being pregnant isn't shameful but beautiful. Personally, I'd rather see this than the "land whales" that inhabit fast food places or other retail establishments. If you wear a top like this, you'd best have A) washboard abs or B) like this: twins or very due singleton pregnant belly.

Unfortunate situation, not news worthy at all since the business has every right to enforce its rules, and it has every right to establish its own rules. Yes, she's hot, no doubt. Yes, she looks great and if she wants to flaunt her belly, go for it, more power to her. She is the customer in this situation, she is entering into a business agreement, if the business does not meet her agreement (violation of dress code), then that's that. YES there is a double standard at play here, yes, she's being pregnancy shamed BUT the rules are rules and all rules are discriminatory in some way shape or form. That's what rules are, meant to exclude certain things. Like at my work, minors can't use box razors, it is discriminatory on them for safety reasons, but still discriminatory, though less arbitrary than a dress code.

Though, this took place in Washington state? I know nothing of the West Coast, and clearly my impression of Seattle and all that has no validity here with what appears to be a barn country. Christ, it's like Amish county in my state. That just blew my mind, I saw the photos and was like "Oh, this must be in Central PA, or Ohio."

It sounds like a very subjective application of this "rule" was used in this case. Rules are rules but when you have to apply a personal interpretation "best guess" of a rule, it's not a very good rule and probably serves no purpose to enforce it. "Well, it looks like her sandals aren't covering enough of her toes, but I can't tell, but they are shoes in fact, but it might look like she isn't wearing shoes to some people, but today I feel like the no-shoe rule needs to be enforced, because that's how I feel and that's how I will interpret this situation."

The only solution that doesn't result in a double-standard is a zero-tolerance policy for showing midriff. That means absolutely no midriff for anybody, including skinny girls whose tank tops end an inch above their pants.

I really doubt this place has such a zero-tolerance policy in place.
