yes, for now it evens out. but being that over time the population inevitably increases, this plateau or ceiling will increase. but yes, the population will still even itself out at these certain points, or plateaus. Never said that the human population permanently evens itself out for the rest of eternity. nor did I intend to imply so. you chose to assume as such because you rushed to a conclusion/made an assumption.
And to @ religarro, true. There aren't as many people having offspring as rapidly as back then. but the increase is still there. Guess you could say we're at one of those plateaus where the population generally stays around the same average number/amount.

Technically there's the carrying capacity to worry about; the limit where we don't have enough food to viably increase the population which causes it to stagnate.

If this means anything, now that the conversation is totally off topic...

Currently the US fertility rate is 1.9, so sans immigration, the US population is actually decreasing. This is a fairly common case in the developed world. Largely, overpopulation occurs in less developed countries, where birth control is less accessible, large families are common, and the primary industry is agriculture. IIRC, I've seen several commercials and PSAs from Japan and Europe urging young men to go out and date and couples to have kids!
Edited 'cuz rounding numbers correctly

My only addition to this is actually a sad one, death rate. Since WW2, I believe the largest loss of life in a major war was the Iranian-Iraq War. WW1 and WW2 shocked humanity so severely that the threat of war alone is enough to deter things, which don't get me wrong, is a good thing. The Romans went to war when their populations got too high just to keep things evened out. The second part of this with death rate is simply modern medicine. Smallpox as been eradicated. Smallpox has claimed more lives then any single thing in human history. It's responsible for the 90% drop in population in the Americas from the time the Spanish landed in the 1400s, to when the asshole pilgrims came in the 1600s. 90%, some theorize as many as 50 million to 500 million natives. And that's just in 200 years. Eventually our populations will get so out of control a new epidemic will even it out or a real war. That's how history runs its course.
Can anyone tell I'm a historian by profession lol.

It's sincerely a good feeling to be able to come to a site like this and actually walk away having learned something.
