I have good experience with some freeware tools. check
avidemux
virtualdub
Both have some deinterlacing filter out of the box. save the deinterlaced vid as a new file with a lossless codec. After that. load it in your AI tool. Please stay with the original frame rate (25 or ~30 for raw DVD) double frame raste increases the final file size drastically.
The drop Zone 1 vid is has the interlacing artifacts too.

Speaking of Drop zone could you upscale this please? It looks like there is a demand for Drop Zone 1....I will place it on the "to do" list and go directly to the VOB source instead of my less than perfect rip. I will also do Drop Zone 2 and 3 since it seems appropriate.

The drop Zone 1 vid is has the interlacing artifacts too. Thanks sylys! I have used virtual Dub in the past to good effect! I will experiment with both to see if there is an enhanced de-interlacing routine better than what TOPAZ AI offers.
