I'm contemplating the idea of enabling members to upload saved TikToks/YouTubes directly instead of via drives. I'm still giving this some thought, and it would need to be hosted on a separate server with additional costs, however it might be worthwhile. This would only apply to social media -- no long-form or other stuff (no OF for example).

Any thoughts? Yay? Nay? Would you bother using it if it was available?

This is actionable and I'd appreciate as much feedback as possible. The main thing I'm trying to gauge is whether people would bother to use it. If it was introduced, we'd probably discourage linking to videos directly and encourage direct uploads.

How resorceful would this server be in case of an DCMA takedown as well as people inevitably uploading duplicates of the same video? Last thing you want is for this server to one day take a dump and delete eveything that was stored on it. Least with a drive, it can always be reuploaded again (when people care to reupload of course).

This would be on an entirely separate server with a separate domain, but embedded on this site. Admittedly yes, organization/duplicates would potentially be a problem. We wouldn't allow for anything except social media content (YouTube, TikTok, etc.)

In reality, I feel people will end up abusing it and uploading spam and other junk. And that's if enough people even bother with it as opossed to either making their own thread or adding on to the existing Tube and Tik-Tok threads.

And if you're going to continue having those two threads, than this server will be pretty much redundant.

Good points @"Way123" -- if implemented, we'd have to strongly encourage its usage. As for spam/junk, that should be fairly straightforward. There would be a limitation on length/duration and we'd be able to see whether content falls outside of the narrow scope of the server (social media only).

I'm tired of seeing channels go private or get deleted, and this strikes me as a potential solution. That's the main reason I'm raising it as a possibility.

Another thought that popped into my head, will it be similar to the community Google drive that was here a long time ago where you could just be added and contribute? Or will each video be verified before it gets added?

For the latter, best example I can give is the site StufferDB puts all of their uploads in "purgatory" and each video has to be verified before it either goes through or gets deleted from the server. It's done by a moderator so there is a delay between uploads, but it does ensure that next to no spam gets uploaded.
