(May 19, 2019, 12:22 am)Akhenaten Here's the thing: you can't force a woman to carry a baby in order to teach her and/or the daddy a lesson. You just end up using the woman as an incubator for a child that isn't wanted by either of the parents, and the old line of "no child is unwanted" is horseshit. We have a "system" because yes, plenty of children are unwanted. So none of that tracks very well. Pregnancy, childbirth, and children should not be punishments against women for having consensual sex or for getting raped.

And I'm really not understanding how it's possible to focus "too heavily" on the rights of a woman and her bodily autonomy. That's completely and utterly impossible. You realize corpses have more bodily autonomy than living women do, right? It's why if you want to be an organ donor, you have to get that made official -- otherwise after your ass dies, people can't do anything to your body other than dispose of it, even if your guts could save a life. We're telling women now that they don't have as much agency as dead people. What a fucking disaster.

I look at it this way, dead bodies aren't carrying a new human life.  Women have every right to do with their bodies whatever they want. Have as much or as little sex as they want or not.  It's when a baby is conceived that things change.  That unborn baby is a human life with its own distinct genetic markers and has the same right to life and liberty as the mother.  Women have access to many forms of birth control, the morning after pill and they can set the baby up for adoption.  I agree that victims of rape and incest should have the option of abortion, as well as medical emergencies.

There has to be some accounting for the fact that they are carrying a human life.  People (doctors, nurses, insurance companies, etc.) make choices every day that affect whether people live or die, but for the most part they fully acknowledge the choices they are making. When it comes to abortions, though, I think some people too easily look past the process of ending a human life.

I'm pro-choice, BTW.  The pro-life argument gets more wrong, but the pro-choice side has room to improve as well.

We have to look right past it -- no exceptions. A woman's always got a right to exercise agency over all aspects of her own body. If it squicks you out, don't get an abortion, because that's what you believe. If you're a man, then it's literally never gonna be your problem anyway, so it's time to bow out.

If I’m on a diet I’m not gonna get mad for someone eating a doughnut near me. If I’m personally anti-abortion, then I don’t get an abortion. It’s that easy people.

I don't pay attention to the news, but it is weird that suddenly all these states are passing anti-abortion laws. What brought this on?

The laws themselves are sudden, but it's merely a matter of timing in a long game. It's been the conservatives' plan all along. The Supreme Court is now stacked with conservatives because of Trump, which means that if abortion rights are brought before the Supreme Court again, Roe vs Wade will probably be overturned and women will lose their bodily autonomy. Conservatives across the US waited patiently for this moment, and now that it's here, they're passing these obscene laws that they know will be challenged in lesser courts. Eventually, at least one of them will be appealed all the way up to the Supreme Court, and that case will be used to overturn Roe vs Wade and send the US back in time. It's insidious.

Make no mistake: women have been seeking abortions since before the US even existed, and will continue to do so once abortion is outlawed. The only thing that will change is that women will no longer have access to safe abortions, so there will be a tremendous spike in women dying from botched abortions. "Pro-life" indeed...

*opens Sprite & sips* I do agree that there would be a lot of women to die. But here's the thing: what if it doesn't get outlawed? There is no proof that the baby being aborted is murder. An guess what: if you create a life you have the right to take it out. It is your creation. You can do what you want with your creation as long as it doesn't hurt others. We all know there's more people on this shithole of a country being born by "accident" than on purpose.

Women claim "accident", "I fell pregnant". We know that's not true. Its not an accident if nothing was done to prevent it. The sure fire ways to prevent pregnancy is: no vaginal sex until you want a kid or take ya U out. How hard is it to resist vaginal sex until you want a kid? People claim they are smart an they cant even resist that. They act like "I have no choice" well ladies that is a choice. Women can have sex 3 ways. Use the other 2.

Now about the death part: there are MILLIONS of women in this "country". Those deaths (or injuries) will not put us at a recession or depression. Business like GM or Kroger or Amazon will not lose that much business. You wil not be fired or laid off. Go back to business as usual. Im sick of women bitchin about this. Most of the women (or kids born by them) will either be "by accident" or those kids will just be replacements for jobs other people have now. None of the women (or kids) who "get injured or die" will meet aliens, they won't make revolutionary tech, they won't meet kings, queens of other planets. They won't make new energy, they won't make a federation an unite planets together. They will be replacements.

So no I do not care. This country cares so much about "abortions" like it depends on it. I am not pro life or pro choice. I just watch them fight. Now what law should be made is: teen pregnancy (& college) pregnancy should be illegal! Why¿ we both know they can't raise kids, the parents do all the work. I imagine the law should be like this: "anyone under 21 (& if you are under 21 now) your kids will be taken away & no friend or family member can adopt it). Simple as that. Then they can focus on their education

That is called privilege. As a male, you have the privilege of not having to care because it won't ever affect you personally. If you were a woman, you would have to care because your country is about to make it so that if you get raped, you have to have the baby. And that's about, oh, I dunno, 100% fucked up.
