I think its either one cranky member or a few. But it seems no matter what gets posted, somebody rates it probably single star. I've seen it happen to my threads(possibly I irked someone who likes to hold stupid grudges) and I've seen it happen to other members threads.

The underlining problem is the rating system does not show the the threads with the most high star ratings, it only shows the currently 5-star ones. Meaning if one thread is voted 5 out of 5 by one person and never rated again it will still be higher than a thread that has 100 5-star ratings with a few 2-star ratings giving it an average of 4 out of 5. I don't know if that makes sense but it completely screws up the whole thing.

Is there a way to either A. Change to a sorting system based on the ratio of ratings or B. maybe a sorting system by finding the threads with the most "likes" in it. Since more people generally seem to like individual posts, this could make finding really good content easier.

Just a thought, possible given the OS, nothing might be able to be done.

Agreed -- I'm not happy with the rating system myself. I've been tied up with some other stuff but plan to try implementing the "hottest" threads and most liked threads (on the home page) features. This is something I'll add to the list.

Would keeping the sorting as it is but adding the number of ratings in parentheses help? I know it's possible to see the rating count by mousing-over, but this would at least make it easier to avoid high-rated threads without many ratings. Another option might be filtering threads by number of ratings.

I'm definitely in favor of displaying and sorting threads by likes. It might make sense to retire the star ratings in place of likes. There would be a like option at the top of a thread which would count towards the OP (already exists, but featured more prominently to make clear it's a replacement of the star system).

I like the idea of showing the amount of ratings in parentheses!(i honestly didnt know about the hover option) Similar to how google does their shit. Having a "number of likes" feature as well as a "star rating with count" would be the best option as it gives more customization to the sorting system rather than removing the star system entirely.

But its your call on how its implemented, and no rush, its all whenever you get around to it. Thanks for the response.

@tomostrife My bad, I can mouse-over as an admin. To see the rating count, you need to cast a vote and then it's possible to mouse-over. I'll add the count for everyone without having to vote.

@tomostrife I haven't forgotten about improving ratings. The thing I want most is a list of threads on the front page -- hottest of the week or whatever. Right now my top priority is finishing the mobile design and refining it (to the extent that it's done, it's quite rough around the edges).

I've decided to create a change log:

I'm not terribly concerned, but I appreciate the effort. The mobile site is looking good though
