What is "Prompt Syntax" and why does it matter?
Prompt Syntax
refers to the rules and conventions that are used to structure and format prompts for AI image generation models
can include various elements, such as keywords, punctuation, and formatting conventions, that are used to convey specific instructions to the model
helps to ensure that the input to the model is well-defined and unambiguous so that the model can generate the desired output with a high degree of accuracy
This boils down to the fact, that not just what you write is important, but also how you write it. Let's dive right in and consider what that means for our prompts.
Order and Semicolons
Without any further semantics, the AI will prioritize whatever is written first. Therefore it is crucial to put the main theme and most important part of the image at the start.
After that should follow what else you want to see in the image followed by styles and artists. Semicolons help the AI (and you) to understand different sections. A recommended split would be:
"Main theme ; Adjectives ; Styles and Artists"
Sentences vs Keywords
A lot of community members have seen improvements in their prompts when using sentences instead of just keywords. This applies mostly to the main theme. I can personally confirm that this is the way
Bad: "full body image, stealthy ninja, thieves guild, black ninja-outfit, standing in front of a red car ; ..."
Good: "full body image of a stealthy ninja from the thieves guild wearing a black ninja-outfit standing in front of a red car; ..."
