i mean, this actually isn't totally inaccurate notion tbh, but people forget the other side of that coin: people - women, men, and children, for different reasons - would normally get injured and die quite a lot, hence the need for so many children in the first place. modern society has fixed this but also changed the incentives around having children (before birth control, the main incentive was simply "fucking feels good").

I'm glad for this because even though reading it made me feel ill, I learned something new and it gave me some insight into a movement to give fetuses rights in Scotland that they don't currently have.

This is utterly horrific, and I'm amazed that the doctor wasn't held more to account for that. All the same the petition this woman is asking for doesn't seem like a very good way to fix the problem legally. I don't know the details of the case but wouldn't her trauma + the malpractice of the doctor be the major things that should be taken into account here?
