That's true but some of them also fake on how far they are. And it seems they call 32 - 36 weeks as 9 months and 36 - 40 weeks as full term. So a 9 month belly might not look so big.

It's not so much faking how far along they are, as a cultural misunderstanding - Most Asian nations, Japan included, count pregnancy as lasting 10 months, not 9, using a lunar based calendar. It's easiest to think of it as their 9th month being the western world's 8th. Just a cultural quirk.

Oddly enough, many people in the west also think it's 10 months even based on the Gregorian calendar, simply because they forget that a month is more than 4 weeks. But 52 weeks in a year minus 40 weeks equals 12, which is a little under 3 months. So really, 40 weeks is 9 months and 6 days
