This has to be one of the most underrated threads on this site! Seriously the collection of classic maternity clothing pics is absolutely refreshing and mind-blowing when you consider how attitudes toward pregnancy have changed over the years. I get a sense of how shameful being pregnant used to be. Of course, despite the best efforts of early maternity clothing designers to hide women's pregnancies those growing bellies would just protrude through the fabric announcing to the world they were knocked up. No matter how loose-fitting the garment was you could spot a pregnant woman a mile away simply because of how ridiculously large she looked.

Anyway, I found this pic two days ago when I was feeling a bit nostalgic for the department store catalogs I used to comb through to see undressed women back in the days before the internet.

There was one of her in a short maternity shirt which she gave me when I was 11 as a nightshirt which went down between my knees and ankles, though she's 5'10 nearing 6' and the pic showed she didn't mind to show legs (the shirt reads "Dream a Little, Dream of Me" is in her closet along with her other clothes, including a police officer uniform jacket when she worked for the local police). I loved viewing these pleasant, beautiful and romanticizing pics of women in the past were proudly showing their bodies while with child going back decades or past a century.

I thought of her again this week (her birthday week at the end of April)...I have the shirt now which has a mommy bear hugging a baby bear (so cute). Some of these pics had the first t-shirts, underbellies or simply lifting the shirts about half a century ago or the 1980s-90s. After her home was sold, my father has these risque photos and it goes to show it's perfectly alright for my own mother enjoyed being pregnant (at least, twice).

Is this from 1980? There were photos of more revealing clothes and underwear back then, but the progression from "private" before the sexual revolution and the rise of feminism to women don't have to hide their pregnancies anymore. That's a nice image of a proudly pregnant picture model: no mannequins, fake prosthetic belly or nowadays, CGI or AI. :-(

Its likely from the early to mid 1980s.
