A shoutbox/chatroom feature will be included in the upgrade. Does "Open Discussion" seem like a reasonable location for this feature? Here's what it looks like (still altering the appearance/layout of the chatbox slightly):

I like it, but what about a pop-out style chat? Or even just blocked?

The pop-out idea is interesting. As a starting point, the box will be integrated within "Open Discussions" however I might create a dedicated/full page. This could evolve into a pop-out with a small menu bar above the chatbox.

Looks like a good place to me where it belongs. I was thinking of something more along the lines of Facebook where it's a small pop-up window to talk to someone. But this one is a lot better
