Would love to hear what everyone's experiences are with working IRL pregnancy-adjacent jobs.
I have just started working at a baby supply store as part-time work from my usual job. It was motivated by the idea of being close to preggos, however, I have made the following observation:
Will probably quit as I'm very early into the employment, and the job is more-or-less completely irrelevant to my desired career trajectory (I had a moment during a training session today where I realised just how over-qualified I am for this job). I was also under the impression my position largely dealt with couples getting prepared for when the baby comes, but the reality is I'm frequently in closer proximity to dealing with parents of 12-month-old kids or older. I find my pregnancy kink comes in waves of intensity; it gets really intense where it is the only thing occupying my thoughts, and then after vigorous *coughs* self-reflection, I can operate as normal and an in-person encounter with a pregnant woman is barely enough to hold a glance. I was definitely in the throes of pregnancy-obsession when I came across the job ad and not engaging the logical part of my brain.
It was an interesting experience to have in it cemented the reality of these professions and gives a point of reference next time an intrusive thought like this pops up. These forums regularly talk about how great it would be to get pregnancy-adjacent jobs, but they often overlook and rarely discuss the fact these jobs aren't just big bellies and increased libidos. I also observed that, working in a baby supply store, it is close-to-given that you'll see a pregnant woman, which takes the excitement out of the encounter for me. For example, seeing a preggo chick at the supermarket is much more exciting because you were there to get avocados and crips.
Unrelated to pregnancy fetishism, outside the store is a main road, which is dizzyingly potent with car fumes. Also, the male staff seem odd; I'd quickly assume they're preggofiles too, but their person-to-person interactions are a bit uncanny-valley, like they're doing an interpretation of what a caring sales/warehouse assistant would be.

- The job requires a lot of attention, so there isn't moments or even seconds to sneak glances.
- A lot of the women are early pregnancy, or post-birth - I find 7-9 month pregnancies the most sexually appealing.
- The women are often accompanied by a male partner or parent.
- They're discussing logistical stuff (the un-fun side of pregnancy) and are often disgruntled from the get-go, from what I presume is a lack of sleep.
- Seeing the actual children and worried parents adds a moral-weight to my role that evaporates any possible eroticism.
