If a baby is a morning birth, will the mom go home the next morning or afternoon? Would an afternoon birth mean a full next day in the hospital?

How does the time of day a baby's born effect when mom goes home?

This is a great question! I'd love to know the answer as well.
In my experience, it's a case by case with many factors. Both my sister's pregnancy had her stay for a few days while a friend had her kid that early vening and was able to leave a bit after midnight.

Would an afternoon birth mean a full next day in the hospital? The general rule is, or at least used to be, two days for vaginal births and three days for C-sections, with the extra day mostly for monitoring the mother. I think most hospitals won't send a baby home until it pees and poops, assuming all other vitals are good, and mom and baby are usually discharged together unless one is destined for a long stay. But it also depends on how busy the hospital is. Getting discharged takes a long time: once the nurses think you're ready then the doctor has to sign off on it, and then there's a shit ton of paperwork, you gotta pack up all the shit you brought with you, you load the car, then baby decides it needs to eat, then you get the baby in the car seat and suddenly it needs a diaper change, etc. The whole process can take hours. So unless you're unlucky, you'll be going home within 48 hours (72 w/ C-section) give or take a few. That was true with both of my kids and with my wife's surrogacy.
Our first 3 it was about 20 hours from admission to discharge. Our last child it was basically once the blood work came back and he went to the bathroom.
Seems different depending where you're from. I'm from British Columbia, Canada. With both my kids we were sent home after the baby breastfed, had a diaper change, and mom had 24hrs rest.

You have public health care, so there is no benefit to the hospital and doctor bleeding you dry by keeping you there. Might as well send you home. | |||||||||||||
