This thread will focus less on the "torpedo-ness" of belly growth, and more on growth that takes over the torso. This includes when the belly causes heavy rib/pelvic lines, sideways growth, and a general "tall belly" look, if that makes sense! Often, I imagine upwards growth into the ribcage like this must be pretty uncomfortable!

Basically, if a woman looks full, with her belly growing more upwards or sideways, and less outward, it fits here! Women sitting down and sort of "cheating" this effect count too, and they don't have to be the biggest or very far along!

Not all of these are the best of examples, but here's some I've found over time

Bellies that you can see from behind are truly a rare treat.

bellies like this only really occur with skinny/slim women, which is my preference. it's why a lot of the fat/overweight women that are posted around here (and other preggo places) have no appeal to me; i like the proportional exaggeratedness of the huge, round, tight protruding belly contrasting with a skinny body. fat women just end up looking more obese.

rant over, great post!

Often I find it's a bit of a toss up, but generally it's the more fit women that have this effect. My guess is strong abs keep things from growing outward too much, so their torso just kind of swells in other directions.

Not necessarily just fit but also very petite, e.g. the “spinner” type that is very short and slender with relatively narrow hips and waist.  With those conditions in place, as long as the belly gets to be any decent size it is more likely to become wider than her hips/waist.  You can even see it if the belly also sticks out a lot in front.
