Hello,
Recently I got very interested in creating gifs and it appears to be very tricky because of the maximum size of that type of file that can be attached to the post. In my view it is important for gifs to be high quality, but this constrains the lenght of the loop that I want to include in a gif. On the other hand gifs with small resolutions doesn't make sense because of the low quality. Has there been any suggestions on enlarging the gif size limit before?

What limit do you think would be reasonable? How big are some of the files working out to? I can definitely bump it up.

Go check out my threads, there's some good stuff in 'em.

The current size is 6500 kilobytes, which makes for roughly 6,3 mb. I don't know how much there is space to improve, but to include belly timelapses for example or some belly dance, vacuum clips in hq it should be about 120 mb (for like 15 seconds clips)

(July 12, 2022, 7:23 am)Rapeheart it should be about 120 mb (for like 15 seconds clips) I agree that it's difficult to get more than a couple seconds at a medium/low resolution into a ~6 MB gif--I've banged my head against that a few times; wished the limit was 10 or 12 MB--but rather than increasing the size limit exponentially, I'd like to see support for uploading/attaching h.264/webm video clips à la imgur or redgifs. It's a lot easier to get a couple seconds of video into a few megs than it is to create/host/transfer/consume hundred megabyte gifs (though, maybe not as trivial as just increasing the size limit if the forum script doesn't easily support video attachments).
Do not re-post my photos to any other website.

Alright, so as an interim measure, I've double the GIF size limit to 12 MB. I like your idea @ cousinslick and this is something I'll look into including (need to determine if the script has native support for webms).
@ Rapeheart we can't go quite that high, but let me know how you make out with 12 MB. We're considering supporting video/clip uploads (for social media finds only, might be able to use it for this purpose too) on a separate server, so this might be the ultimate solution.

It's still a bit constraining but it's much better

Lot of gifs fall in the 10-20mb range. I think 20 or 24mb would be a good cap. This one is 12.24mb

Unfortunately we're not going to be able to raise it beyond the current limit. 20+ MB GIFs are basically clips and this will cause the site to run out of storage way too quickly. I'll be revisiting larger images (and clip-like GIFs) in early 2023 when we make some server changes.
