Update:

Unfortunately I think my external harddrive might be fried, which is where all the pictures were.

Anyone know how to fix an EHD that is clicking when plugged in? If so let me know and I can continue to work on it, if not then sadly they are gone.

Does it still show up on your computer when plugged in? If so, get as much data off as possible before the drive finally dies.

The only other method is to take it to a drive recovery specialist to see if they can grab the data. Usually, it's the drive hardware that dies but you can save the actual drive data on the platters.

Do all this sooner rather than later because a failing drive is like a ticking time bomb.

Unfortunately it does not appear on my computer anymore

Put it in a ziplock bag and stick it in your freezer overnight. Pull it out and plug it back in. It's only a temporary fix so be prepared to copy as much off as quickly as you can.

Drastic measures then. If you're handy with electronics you can try to transplant a new drive controller board from another working drive of the exact same model and size and see if that resurrects it or bring it to a data recovery service. Neither way is cheap and the recovery service is super expensive.

^ This is literally the only option at this point. @Dr. Preggo I suggest you act fast. Also, don't just give up. I know too many people across many communities and fetishes that regretted not recovering their data, backing it up or just purging everything and then getting super mad later on when they want to go back to that data. My advice always, never delete anything and always back up.

Swapping the board isn't hard. Just a couple screws holding it to the drive. That's usually what fails in a drive. The platters with the information should be fine unless the drive has been dropped while running. The head can scratch them. Or as others have mentioned you can take it to a shop and they can recover the info. I've used both methods in the past. Costs about $500 to recover the data depending on the shop. Cloud backup is your friend for stuff you can't lose.
