Instagram displays images from URLs like:

If you go to that URL, you get the 640x799 pixel image you posted earlier in this thread:    

But, if you take out these bits:

you end up with a URL like:

which gets you a 1080x1349 pixel version of the same picture:    

It doesn't work for every photo, but it works for a lot of them. Also for stories.

I use the Redirector extension/add-on for Chrome and Firefox to automatically redirect the browser to the full size photo when I open an instagram image in new tab (or wheel-click view image). Setting it up is a little confusing, but luckily you can export and import configurations. Here's what I use:

[/code]If you save that to a text file, install the extension, go into it and edit redirects, there should be a button to import. I've got image redirects setup for Twitter, Instagram, Pinterest, and Weibo. One weird thing about it though, it redirects to the full size picture URL, and you'll see the large image in the web browser, but sometimes if you go to save it, you'll end up with the original smaller picture. Just refresh the large image before saving.
