(April 3, 2020, 7:57 pm)orta03 Yeah, I have to admit it.  I was dead wrong about this virus.  The media and the rest of the people here were right.  This thing is no joke.  Over 100,000 cases now just in the state of New York!  My aunt is an RN(registered nurse) and her hospital(in New Jersey) has over 40 patients with it.  I'm speechless at this point.

Thanks for being big enough to say that. Nothing wrong with being wrong, just gotta be able to see the real shit quickly and turn it around. Unfortunately, I think we had way too many people (particularly people in power) who were also like, ah fuck it, and now........

Yep.  They underestimated it and now the US has more than three times the number of cases now than China and that number is increasing rapidly.  You can even hear it in the President's voice how defeated this situation has made him.  I can't blame him completely, a lot of us Americans made the same mistake, thinking this virus was no big deal.  We're paying for that now.

@orta03 @Akhenaten A lot of this was due to lack of communication and misinformation that was spread quicker than the disease initially. Which in turn led to bad timing for manufacturers and retailers into which they're struggling to meet demand due to their entire inventory being gobbled up by the first wave of hoarders who are sitting at home with a garage full of toilet paper and hand sanitizer. But I believe that the lack of legit information and poor timing is what hurt the most since you STILL have people (even in this thread) passing it off as the "Kung Flu". Not to mention things didn't start getting serious until MONTHS after the virus started causing havoc in China. Even if people started to get serious back in February, then the world would be in a better position than it is currently.

And believe me when I say the grocery stores in general were not prepared for this. At this point, inventory at the warehouses are so thin, that they have to ration off what they can to each store. Which means a supermarket can't control what comes on the truck and can only hope they receive more than 1 pallet of toilet paper due to them initially not having a limit on essential supplies. As mentioned before, I'm seeing the worst of this while currently working in a grocery store and daily I have to fight tooth and nail with stubborn customers over this.

I have to hand to you guys and gals in the grocery stores. I can only imagine the crazies you deal with on a regular basis. Do you think farmers will be able to keep up with demand?

The fresh produce has been getting hit a bit harder than usual, but nothing's been too drastic from what I've been seeing. The canned vegetables on the other hand up until recently have been flying off the shelves. Although the past week customers have been slowing down with the canned veggies, so we're beginning to stockpile them again. The beef and dairy farmers have also been hit hard due to people stockpiling on ground beef, milk, and eggs.

But yeah, other than toilet/paper towels, bleach, and disinfectants such as lysol and rubbing alcohol; Cereal, Chef Boyardee, Ramen Noodles and junk food in general have been huge money makers due to all the kids and college aged teens being stuck at home for the next few months.

To be fair: the world doesn't know how to prepare for a "pandemic" because the last time this happened was when our great grandparents were around. We all get taught "what to do in case of a fire" or "hurricaine" or "flash flood" but not this. This is expected to last as early as Sept or as late as around Thanksgiving (when we all get vaccinated). Then the entertainment industry will start back up an shows will not finish their seasons to almost 2021.

If we end up getting the cure by Spring 2021: a depression (good thing is captitalism will get hurt) & celebrities wont be rich. They will have to go out n work.

Btw: you do know the government doesnt REALLY care about us right? They dont care about our feelings or the deaths. We are just robots to them. The government is our pimp & we are hoes. Think about it: they want us healthy so we can go out & "make dat money" which makes rich stay rich. The middle class & everyone else continues to be poor. The 1 million deaths would be just 1 million workers. The odds of someone revolutionizing humanity is small. Theres a possibility that childcare could be eliminated if we wait until 2021 to get the cure.

The virus came from China & they have yet to apologize. Why? They are selfish. When I get my stuff at the store: I will take something out their basket if they're not lookingWink

Due to recent events, there's a raise in probability that the lockdown that my country enacted to stem the infection rate of CoViD-19 would be extended, and most authorities regarding health support that, but not so much for the economic authorities.  Confused

Good luck to those still taking it lightly by thinking that the virus is just like a normal flu and think this is some media or government conspiracy.
