So I might as well post it here in case someone wants to take this and run with it somehow.

My love of pregnant belly buttons is well documented here.  I'm also fascinated by the change that happens with women whose belly buttons undergo extreme changes, whether they really pop out or they just kind of flatten out.  But how can you tell exactly how much a woman's belly button changed?

I had the idea to commission a model for a series of photos starting in early pregnancy.  She would measure her belly button, then take a marker and draw a line around the rim of her belly button.  Then she would keep retracing the same line throughout her whole pregnancy as she grows.  By the end, no matter what her belly button actually did, there would be a clear marker that shows the border of her original belly button, which would be much wider than before.

It would be tough to find the right person: finding a model early enough, finding someone that wants sharpie on their belly button their entire pregnancy.  My wife would have done it with her last pregnancy if I'd had the idea in time.  Dammit.

Anyway... just wanted to share.  Carry on.

More thoughts...

I suppose one way to try to measure this is by referencing a woman's belly button piercing, if she has one.  The piercing starts inside the belly button and ends above/outside it.

For example, let's look at the screenshot of Alexa.  Let's just assume that the former edge of her belly button started in the middle of that little piercing flap of hers.  It's roughly 2 fingernail lengths from the center of her popped out belly button to the middle of the flap.  It's hard to tell how long her fingernails are, but they're not terribly short, so maybe 2cm?  That gives us a rough diameter of about 8cm.

The average normal female belly button is less than 2cm wide, so maybe her belly button grew 4-5 times in width.  Neat!

By the way, these screenshots are all from custom videos I commissioned myself.

Honestly that’s a really interesting idea and would love to see it happen. Though like you said, you’d have to fine someone that’s early on in their pregnancy and would be willing to put a sharpie mark on their belly button through their entire pregnancy. Hoping someone does come along and do this idea.

Belly Button
Now, this is a great topic as a self-confessed belly button fanatic here also...!

Believe it or not, I've thought of something vaguely similar in the past. What I was thinking of wasn't so much drawing around her belly button - but using a tailor's tape measure. The flexible kinds, which would take into account any contours unlike a more rigid ruler e.t.c... It wouldn't be 100% absolutely scientific, but would certainly give at very least a reasonable idea of those sorts of length and width dimensional distortions to a woman's belly button over the course of the pregnancy. I'm a little unsure how to accurately measure how deep a belly button is though - without resorting to small objects to give some sort of rough comparison. I think a tape measure would be a little too fiddly.

On a similar note, it could also be used as a reference for how far the skin stretches around the belly button - such as measuring between itself and maybe a small blemish somewhere else close by on her belly. Then there's measuring from the pubic bone to the bottom of the belly button - to give an indication of how much increased distance there is as the pregnancy progresses...(not just a standard waistline measurement).

As already stated though - the biggest problem more than likely wouldn't be carrying out such a task. It would be finding pregnant woman, in her early stages of pregnancy, willing to do something like this.

My wife made me keep track of her belly button because she did not like the idea of it popping out and obviously as she got bigger she couldn't see it well anymore. Her belly button is naturally pretty deep and never popped out, it just went flat. While we did not take measurements, at the end you could definitely see a ring of pale skin around the center of her belly button that clearly had never seen the sun before. Maybe for our next pregnancy (a year or two away) I could convince her to do something like this.

Love the deep analysis of this and the ideas here! If I’m understanding the drawing idea correctly, wouldn’t it work to find a someone that already has a circle tattoo around her belly button? It might be a bit of a needle in a haystack to find, but I’m sure it’s possible. The concept would probably be the same, the tattoo ring would grow as she stretches and the belly button does it’s transformation, which could then be measured.

You're right, of course. I'm just assuming that finding someone that already has the correct specific tattoo would be even harder to find.

Depending on their positioning, tattoos can give a reasonable representation from my observations. I generally don't like tattoos but don't mind the odd small one on the corner of the belly somewhere for instance. If she does a few progressional pictures, you can usually get a sense of how far the belly has to expand if you can estimate the distances between a few 'fixed points' where the tattoo was before pregnancy and then during. Of course, this wouldn't be belly button specific and I think having a tattoo in that general area would be a great shame - taking away from the natural beauty anyway. Each to their own, though...

I'd assume the most accurate way to get all the proper dimensions of a belly button would be with one of those 3D lazer tools - but it would be an incredibly expensive way of satisfying a fetish! She could lie down flat or stand up straight each time it's measured - to get a direct comparison of how much pressure gravity and the womb puts on the inside of the belly button as it shallows. I'm not entirely sure how you could measure those sorts of changes down to the expansion of the skin and waistline though. I think my earlier idea of a tailors tape measure may give you results which are satisfactory enough without the expense...!

That would be a dream come true for me - purposefully observing a woman's belly button, with her permission, change during pregnancy. With or without any measurements or pictures taken. I'd be absolutely over the moon to do something like that! As I've said in the past, the best pregnant belly buttons for me as those which don't pop out, but slowly stretch/distort and shallow/flatten out.

I wish you both all the very best as and when you decide on the next pregnancy.
