Your strategy of acting like you're on your phone while taking video works GREAT! I tried taking my first candid and it didn't work to well, though I saw your technique, tried it, and the improvement is amazing!

I slide over to camera and simply hold the phone at my side with the camera facing outwards while holding down the volume button(takes photos on iPhone if you didn't know). Holding down the button takes a burst which you can then go through later.

I am currently working on the subject of video recordings with my smartphone.
Unfortunately, I'm still looking for the right app for it.
 
The recording should start with the volume up button when the screen is locked (!) and it should record in 4k or better.
 
For android i found the app "Camera Background - Record when offscreen" from hayhaysoft which works quiet good.
But it can only record in 1920x1080 FHD. My phone can record 3840x2160 UHD
 
What use is a newer smartphone with a good camera if the app only records in FullHD?
 
Do you have some tips, what app can record in very good quality (4k or more) and will the image stabilization technique of the phone work in this app?
My Samsung S8 videos look very bad in motion ;(
 
I’m looking for a new smartphone but I guess the camera-comparison-tests are useless if you don’t use the Android-Camera-App.
