Tank Girl: Apocalypse is about a pregnant Tank Girl. At the same time, numerous cults are predicting different ends of the world. One cult gets worried that another is right, and changes its apocalypse date to that year, and starts the signs of the apocalypse. Tank Girl’s baby to be is seen as the next messiah, so the Brothers of Baal capture her and bring her to a government testing building.
There, they give Tank Girl shocks and drugs that speed up her pregnancy. By the time Sub Girl and Jet Girl (and the gang) get there to see her, she’s fit to burst! But that doesn’t stop her from getting shit done.
Recently the comic was available to be read online, but since that time the site has mysteriously disappeared.
Although the hilarious cover (looking like a poster for an offbeat romantic comedy) may show off a bare belly that’s so huge it looks like it has swallowed an entire Thanksgiving turkey, she doesn’t get this big; or wears this outfit. We do see her belly bare through most of the comic.
I've got to be honest I was a little disappointed by this given the reputation it has for pushing boundaries and causing controversy. I don't know what I was expecting (a bigger belly, a more interesting story). I knew it was graphic but there didn't seem any meaning, thought or depth beneath it, which for me was a bit of a disappointment. On the bright side, the illustrations are good but I'd give it a miss unless you're a die hard fan of the series.
On a side note, seeing that there are rumors floating around about a movie reboot of Tank Girl and potential franchise are there any ideas who can be casted in the role if a movie based on the series comes later on?
Besides obvious choice Miley Cyrus.
