It's now possible to upload short (6 MB and under) video clips belonging to the MP4 and WEBM formats. This was done with the TikTok thread and a few other things in mind. @mimmiberg was kind enough to direct our attention to an excellent resource that allowed for quick implementation.

As this is a new feature, please post any and all problems here. Suggestions too. The embed player is browser-based and we've chosen 600 pixels as the maximum longest dimension, with the player scaling at 90% for mobile devices.

Works very well for both MP4's and WEBM, would definitely gravitate to WEBM for longer videos for these sweet x10 reductions in filesize.

I think the only downside is the space it takes up on the page, one video per row with the embed players do make the posts pretty long if you're including a lot of small videos.

In the future if we can find a way to reduce it down to the usual image grids, and have it expand to the player on click will make it feel less cluttered.

Short term, if the line containing the filename, filesize and download count of each video was removed/hidden that would go some way.

Ditto if the padding between videos is reduced as much as possible.

Brilliant feature in any case, looking forward to seeing how it's used (and using it myself).

Agreed on all points @mimmiberg. I'm toying around with the presentation -- definitely want to streamline things and reduce clutter, even if it's not possible to have multiple videos form a grid.

Once again, I really appreciate your pointing us to that page. What a difference this has the potential to make! Another thing I'm exploring is the feasibility of a distinct/separate upload path for video files. This would enable us to rent a VPS or something with additional storage, possibly allowing for 20 MB, 50 MB or possibly even 100 MB videos.

Separate from this, I'm going to create a new thread with a list of features that should be implemented. I'm talking to one of the developers of MyBB, apparently he dealt extensively with the upload system, for some freelance work. We need bookmarks, tagging or dual prefixes, gallery access to videos, etc. :

Feel free to list anything that comes to mind, as a site improvement, in this thread in the meantime!

Any thoughts on the current format (https://preggophilia.com/tiktok--20093-t...#pid409198) @mimmiberg? I relocated some of the file information to the title attribute. We'd prefer to keep the link itself, in addition to the embed. It's not yet tiled. What I might do is place both the text and embed within a single DIV/container with a border, and then ensure they're capable of being displayed side-by-side as tiles should multiple files be uploaded into a single post.

Yeah looks better, although thinking about it you can do the download via the embedded player, so having the link isn't nesscessarily a gain in functionality.

Ok yes you can use the link to "open in a new tab" or "save as", but most desktop browsers allow that with right-click video options.

Actually looking at Chrome on Android, that doesn't allow you to "save as " from a hyperlink, so that'd still have to be done from the embed.

My two cents, but if it must be kept the container with border idea could work, but perhaps just use a generic link called "link" or "source" rather than the filename.
