Rewatched War of the World's recently. I always forget that at the beginning there is a real-life pregnant Mirando Otto. Her character wasn't written as pregnant, but rather her pregnancy was written into the movie. That is to say, the script remains unchanged (i.e. the pregnancy goes unmentioned) with the exception of one new piece of dialogue. As her character is getting ready to leave for somewhere else, Tom Cruise's character calls to her and says, in reference to the pregnancy, "it's a good look on you." It didn't even occur to me until that moment that I loved putting it like that. The pregnancy is acknowledged as a "look," a state she can be in or a form she can choose to look like. Does anyone else like when pregnancy is acknowledged or described as a "look?"

Pregnancy as a "look"

I love that phrase! Having it just be a compliment for how a woman looks, and how it's refering to the woman's whole body. It's very wholesome
I'd say with firm certainty that the depiction of pregnancy in a piece of media is most often used as a contrast, a polar opposite to the backdrop that it's been depicted with: for instance, it's a well-used trope in apocalyptic fiction to have pregnant women being along a group of survivors, a hopeful reminder that despite the suffering and hell of it all, their presence sends this instinctual solace that the human race will prevail, no matter the circumstances.
Anytime I see a woman I always think about how good she would look knocked up. It’s nice discovering instances when this mindset is acknowledged by others in popular media.

Like some women look like they would suit different sizes of pregnancy. Torpedo bellies, high ones, dropped ones | |||||||||
