Just admiring some more big bellies!

So, I had a pretty dang good day today for one particular reason: this woman that I took candids of kindly allowed me to rub her belly!

I saw her while quickly running an errand, and really admired how far out her belly protruded. The photos never do it justice, but her belly jutted out so so far. After getting some candids, she was checking out at the same time as me. I walked out, and saw her heading to her car, so I took a deep breath and walked over to offer to help put groceries into her fairly high-off-the-ground GMC. I approached her really Calmly/nicely and offered a hand, and she kindly accepted though her English was super great. Once I got the last bag in her backseat, I asked how far along she was, and she stumbled for a minute to get the number 38 weeks out (she said 38, but I knew what she meant). I then asked if I could feel her belly, and she said “oh sure sure” and I reached out and placed my hand right on the top side, eventually moving my hand downward and around underneath. I carried on basic convo, like congrats and stuff, and I eventually placed my other hand on her belly as well. She eventually like sort of tapped my hand and I realized she was trying to guide it toward the top of her belly to feel some movements (she was speaking Portuguese, and I know very little). Didn’t really feel anything, but just smiled along with her. Rubbed her belly for about 25-30 seconds. I then said thank you and congrats again, she smiled and I walked away.

Sorry if this sounds like an intimate novel, but it was a pretty amazing moment to be privileged/given consent to feel her belly. First time I’ve ever done this, and I was pretty nervous. But at the end of the day, I was being respectful, and she was kind enough to allow. Point is, always be respectful to moms-to-be in public, and never cross boundaries (for anyone in life, really), and maybe you can enjoy the same experience some day. Never make a woman, or person, feel threatened, especially when carrying a child.

Btw, I didn’t get any photos/videos of me rubbing her belly sadly. I didn’t want to push it, or make it obvious and risk anything. Next time, however, I’ll certainly make the effort to do so.
