(February 12, 2018, 6:01 pm)Bellyfan27 Why do camgirls have he most cliche names with tight pussy or nipples or big boobs or whatever the fuck in their name?

To grab more viewers attention.

Not me. The typical pornstar-esque names like ladysquirtalot or pussylady69 turn me off.

(February 14, 2018, 5:04 pm)doubleintegral I mention this only to say that if Microsoft is doing something, it's safe to assume that there is decent demand for it. As I said before, we can argue over how changes like this should be made, but it should be clear that the old Explorer UI is no longer a viable one-size-fits-all UI. That doesn't mean that it's ever going to disappear completely, but it will continue evolving.

Yeah, that makes sense, and I agree that your standard Windows UI doesn't do it for non-PCs. I just don't know what the hell MS is still doing in the "alternative platform" market in the first place. They've consistently failed, so it's not their strong point, and trying to shoehorn failed stuff into a productivity OS has resulted in nothing but sad times for what I believe is their core user base. I mean, think about it, why is Windows 10 so much better than 8? Because of how much of that junk was dialed back. Ta-da.

I mean.. come on.. Surface? Why?

Well it's been a good week for me:

I got my state and federal tax refund back.

And I've finally mastered cutting my own hair, and in good timing too. No more having to waste gas going to my former barber, and then paying $15 for a haircut that'll only last little over a month. Plus word is that he's part of a drug ring at my town, and has had the cops watching him for about 2 years now. So it's great to not have to be part of that shit and risk having the cops swarm the place while I'm in the middle of a haircut.

(February 10, 2018, 2:24 am)Akhenaten I miss the days when Windows was focused strictly on productivity. Windows 8 was so bad I refused to install it anywhere at all, but Windows 10 isn't much better

Under the hood, Windows 8/8.1 was better than Windows 7. It sounds to me like you're getting too hung up on the Start screen vs. Start menu, which was indeed shittastic for non-touchscreen users but could easily be mitigated with Classic Shell or Start8.

I'm not a huge fan of 10's UI but the OS itself does introduce some nice features, and the UI changes aren't gonna go away. Might as well get used to them.

(February 10, 2018, 9:19 am)TacoTamale Windows 7 was the last decent OS for me. And another thing I don't like nowadays is how laptops are now being built with the ram/hdd permanently soldered onto the motherboard so you'll have no way of upgrading it down the road.

Remember that computers tend to be geared toward the lowest common denominator. Most people have never cared about being able to upgrade their computers, but being able to swap out these parts came in handy if they ever failed. Nowadays, the excellent reliability of RAM and solid state storage reduces the need for replaceable parts, and making them non-replaceable allows them to reduce the physical size and weight of the device (which is definitely something people care about). There will always be computers available for those of us who need to be able to swap out parts, they're just becoming more niche.

(February 10, 2018, 9:43 am)TommyDe It seems that we are all having problems with the latest version of Windows 10. My laptop came with Windows 7 then I was able to get the free upgrade to Windows 10 for my laptop. Then last year when I did the latest Windows 10 version update it corrupted my had drive. I was able to get it back to Windows 10 Version 1603. That's because Windows Version 1709 is not compatible with my laptop. Now my laptop forced me to upgrade to Windows 10 Version 1709 and I have no WiFi. I'm currently using Ethernet to go online when I'm home.

Just go download your wifi driver from your manufacturer's web site and reinstall it. Windows sometimes installs the wrong driver during setup/upgrades. This is a common problem and is easily fixable.

Quote:Windows is no longer doing minor patch updates they are doing full version updates. I now think about it after reading some of your guys comments on why Windows is doing these updates like a phone is because of their Windows phone that they created to rival with the iPhone and other Android devices.

It has less to do with Android/iPhone and more to do with macOS. When was the last time a Mac user had to pay for macOS? A decade ago? If you buy a Mac today then you have a reasonable expectation of receiving major macOS updates for close to a decade. Microsoft is treating Windows 10 the same way, and it's time for us to follow suit. That said, Microsoft is not doing a good enough job of it, mostly because they don't do enough to differentiate major updates from minor updates.

(February 11, 2018, 1:54 pm)TommyDe Solid State is the way of the future. Are you planning on dividing it up into smaller portions to store stuff? Or just leave it the way it is? I would love to get a solid state but I want mine to be in tb than gb.

Do you really need a 1TB+ SSD? Just get a smaller one (256GB or 512GB) for your OS and software, then use a hard drive for your mass storage. Obviously this is harder to do on a laptop, but your mass storage could be an external HDD, or even the cloud if your Internet is fast enough.

SSDs are indeed the wave of the future, but until their $/GB matches hard drives there will always be a use for spinning platters. Hard drives suck at booting an OS and running applications, but they are great for mass data storage.

For my Windows 10 problem is that my laptop is is almost 4 years old and Windows 10 Version 1709 is incompatible with may laptop and it is not the WiFi drivers on it. The first time I brought to Best Buy to get it fixed I was told that one of the drivers got corrupted & then learned that I need a patch update from Microsoft. Age plays a key role with the Tech and the way we are moving with the Tech.

Wait a minute. They actually made a hard drive size that's not 500GB or a 1TB? Why wasn't I informed of this? I learned in my computer class in college that with the SSD that you turn it into smaller hard drives by dividing it into any size you want it. So that's one of the reasons why I want a 1TB SSD.

That's a very subjective statement. Besides, except for the Start screen and the Settings menu, Windows 8/8.1 bears much more visual resemblance to 7, Vista, XP, etc... than Windows 10 does. They realized their mistakes with the Start screen (it is now a hybrid Start menu) and the Settings menu (now a windowed app), though.

Quote:I mean.. come on.. Surface? Why?

There's plenty of demand for those types of devices. My company has bought several because we needed a small, light, Windows-based touchscreen device. The healthcare industry loves devices with touchscreens and active digitizers, and their EMR/EHR software is almost always Windows-based and never supports an iPad or Android tablet. 10 years ago their only options were those convertible ThinkPad X tablets, but now they can buy Surface Pros for half the cost, or less. (I once knew of a doctor's office that tried to make this work on iPads, using remote desktop into a Windows server to use their EMR. The result was predictably terrible.)

If Microsoft isn't going to make and sell these devices then someone else will, and then Microsoft will still need to make their OS work well with it.

I'm surprised that just going from one Windows 10 version to another would break your wifi. But then again, I saw the Windows 8 -> Windows 8.1 update break some stuff. That's bullshit if you ask me, but we live in strange times. Bummer for you.

I think you've got some wires crossed somewhere.

Hard drives and SSDs have always been available in different sizes. You can find SSDs as small as 64GB (maybe even smaller) these days, although I don't know why you'd want one. 1TB is about the biggest you can currently find in an SSD, whereas you can find hard drives as large as 8TB. The sweet spot for SSDs is the 256GB-512GB range, which would run you about $100-200 give or take.

The "dividing it up" thing you mentioned is called "partitioning", or creating "partitions" on the drive. This is not just an SSD feature - all types of storage media have been doing it forever. The standard practice is to just have one large partition that takes up the entire drive (e.g. the C: drive on Windows), but you can indeed create multiple smaller partitions (D:, E:, etc.). In reality you're better off leaving the drive as one large partition unless you absolutely need multiple partitions (for instance, if you are running multiple OSes off of that drive, then each OS would need its own partition). For just raw data storage partitioning buys you next to nothing in terms of reliability, very little in terms of convenience, and if you ever need to resize the partitions later on then it can be very cumbersome.

I have no wires crossed in my head anywhere. I did get hit in the head with a baseball twice on two separate occasions. That's a story for another time but not now.

That was the word I was looking for. I was told by my computer professor from last semester that it can only be done with SSD & not with a hard drive. I found out about a 1TB hard drive one day when my brother bought for himself a TB external hard drive. I did fin out last month from my friend that they made a 10TB external hard drive.

I know that they were working on the memory size on the TB end. I always thought that 500GB was the highest thing that they had from computers and the PS3 & 4.

You either misunderstood him or he doesn't know shit. Disk partitioning has been around since looooong before solid state media. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Disk_partitioning

Yeah she probably didn't know her computer history right.
