You're actually not so far off with that one.
Porn was quite famous during the time of the roman empire. After the christian Religion came to power it said "SHAME" and kind of forbid much stuff related to sexual material. (Destroying statues with nude men by removing the genital area/covering it. Scrapping off old paintings, etc...).
Same thing with Islam and several other religions.
The believe that free expression of sexuality is a sin is/was common spread and therefor has an heavy impact on the definition of "Morals" in a society.
Yes. And early popes wanted to chain and control kings and tribe leaders with christianity. That's why they banned polygamy, praised celibacy and poverty (promises) etc. The more I read history of christianity, the more I dislike it in what way popes and other leaders used it and corrupted.
