I'm a little worried about downloading video's from file sharing places I see commonly used around here, Rapgator and Mega I think their called.
Last time I tried downloading a vid all I got was a bunch of spam that I thankfully was able to clean out of my computer after some time and effort {mind you I know NOTHING of computer tech and programs}
So can anyone vouch for me that any of the file sharring is safe and works? Or at least what some folks give out to download is safe?

Honestly, spam is one thing. Viruses are annoying but meh. A simple antivirus typically takes care of those. What id watch out for are those crypo lockers (or whatever they are called). I use Cyberreason (it's a blue owl looking thing) that's free and protects you fairly well.

First of all there is no excuse for anyone to out there to not use ublock origin, which is the best open source and light weight adblocker at the moment.
I have all 3rd party filters enabled excluding "Regions, languages" and "experimental". For further privacy/security you can block all third party scripts and frames (medium mode) but this will break alot of pages but the good thing is you can many click on the icon and allow script to run just for that site.
Even without medium mode, it will block most crap out so you shouldnt have any issues downloading the right content. This will also block "mining" when visting site, which of course uses CPU. Also remember to uncheck option to automatically download stuff in your browser setting.
I think what might have happend is you downloaded using a "fake"download button, which infact are just ads and malware most of the time
