(June 24, 2018, 6:31 pm)Bellyfan27 I just think that women these days are feared because of how the news percieves us. It wasn’t like this back in the day but now with internet, people are learning more and more about people and how they act and what they like. They believe that when a man wants to see the changes that a woman goes through while pregnant, we see it as sexy, they see it as sexual harassment. Maybe if that whole bullshit with Harvey Weinstein didn’t happen, we wouldn’t be in this situation.

Weinstein had nothing to do with anything other than bring attention to men's behavior toward women in general. Men can be pigs whether a woman is pregnant or not, old or young, tall or short, skinny or fat.

It is true that men can be pigs but not all men aren’t pigs. A part of this site aren’t just dirty greasy men. We can be sophisticated too.

Well, obviously, but it's not the sophisticated ones women are worried about.

Sorry, but that whole Weinstein drama was blown way out of proportion in my opinion. Was he a sleazy businessman? Yes. Did he often trade movie roles for sex? Absolutely. Is he some indication of male mistreatment of women? No way. Many of the so called #metoo stories are unsubstantiated. It's basically her word with little if any evidence to back it up. Not that it stops many of the accused men to be found guilty in the court of public opinion and their reputation ruined.

And if men are pigs, what does that make the women who willingly sleep with them?
MrTek
If our "thing" became public it would be as bad as The Winter Soldier! (Finding out HYDRA people are everwhere) people wouldnt know who because anyone can lie an say their nice. Women would wonder if their family or friends are getting aroused by them.

Since there is no way to tell who has our "thing" so this would lead to segragation.. because: maternity stores an stores with those sections would only want expecting moms there.. dont get started on the metoo shit.

This is teetering on the edge of a separate debate, which is fine with me but may derail the thread. If a mod thinks otherwise and decides to nuke these posts or move them into a separate thread, I'm cool with that.

1. Weinstein didn't just trade roles for sex. He is accused of (and was arrested for) rape and other types of assault. A DA thought there was enough evidence to bring charges, and now we'll let the court sort it out.

2. It's true that many allegations of assault are one person's word against another. But I think men (particularly men in positions of power) have abused that fact for millenia, and the court of public opinion you cited almost always sided with men. Now we're just seeing the pendulum start to swing the other way. Yes, that will probably result in some false accusations. But in light of that, it is also incumbent upon men to not build a reputation as a womanizing sleazeball (as Weinstein apparently had throughout Hollywood), or to even put yourself in positions where credible accusations could be made (to a reasonable extent).

3. A lot of the big names caught up in #metoo are offering up some pretty tepid rebuttals, and in many cases they're making tacit admissions of at least some wrongdoing. That includes Weinstein, by the way, as well as Louis CK and others.

4. "And if men are pigs, what does that make the women who willingly sleep with them?" To answer that question, I will simply refer you to Louis CK's statement on the accusations against him:

Quote:At the time, I said to myself that what I did was O.K. because I never showed a woman my dick without asking first, which is also true. But what I learned later in life, too late, is that when you have power over another person, asking them to look at your dick isn’t a question. It’s a predicament for them. The power I had over these women is that they admired me. And I wielded that power irresponsibly. ... Now I’m aware of the extent of the impact of my actions. I learned yesterday the extent to which I left these women who admired me feeling badly about themselves and cautious around other men who would never have put them in that position. I also took advantage of the fact that I was widely admired in my and their community, which disabled them from sharing their story and brought hardship to them when they tried because people who look up to me didn’t want to hear it. I didn’t think that I was doing any of that because my position allowed me not to think about it.

They may do it willingly in that they ultimately do have the choice to do it or not, but that doesn't change the fact that they have been manipulated. Nor does it change the fact that men are rarely manipulated in the same manner, which is the real crux of the issue.

To try to bring this back to the original topic... I don't see #metoo affecting the perception of the pregnancy fetish in any appreciable way, at least by our cultural standards in the US. Again, I will cite the fact that if you tell someone today that you like big boobs you won't be viewed as a deviant, and that doesn't mean that a lot of busty women would live their lives in fear of you groping them. (And, again, I'm only talking about the US here. Other countries' cultural standards may differ wildly.) So, with respect to pregnancy, it has never been more glamorous or "in" than it is in 2018, and that trend will only continue. As that trend continues, the fetish will simply become a thing that people accept - maybe not anytime soon, but eventually. The fact that those women in that YouTube video on the last page weren't completely disgusted by it tells me that we've already made more progress than some people might think.
