It's selfish to assume creative people owe anyone anything
Icarus gives us so much incredible stuff And asks nothing in return They could never post anything again and still be acceptable (February 9, 2024, 1:52 am)Nine of Glass It's selfish to assume creative people owe anyone anythingMONEY. HE ASKS FOR MONEY... Otherwise, why have different priced tiers. Are you a digital dummy? Have the white knight armor stuck up your rectum? [I'm referring to the 1-2year hiatus he took without a status update; I'm fine if he takes a break now as long as he notifies us]
It’s the lack of communication, not content, that people are upset about. Icarus has something crazy like 10,000 hours into custom asset creation. Nobody is creating renders on his level. He amassed a following that at its peak was pulling in over six figures a year, and his fanbase is ride or die to the point that his blocked server still gets daily traffic. Icarus specifically created a channel there called “Open Talk with Icarus” to let fans know what’s going on with his absence. He can’t even do that much. People just want to know what’s going on. Jumping on and posting “Still not doing well. Not sure when I’ll be back.” Would take a minute or less and really doesn’t seem like too much to ask for. People are just sick of being in the dark.
I mean he's going through significant illness (plus recent death in the family) and struggling with mental health as a result. It seems unlikely he's going to check in unless he's actually feeling better. And the longer his absence, the more tension he likely feels with returning to normal behavior/communication. I get that people wish he was more communicative (and I do too), but honestly I just hope he's alright and eventually makes his way back.

I just want him to communicate. I don't know why people are so against that. (February 12, 2024, 4:29 am)SunmistninjaI'm not saying it's wrong to want him to communicate. I'm saying your expectations are unrealistic for a person dealing with substantial mental health issues / stress as well as physical illness. And if Icarus happens across certain public comments in threads like this, I wouldn't be surprised if he stays gone forever.(February 9, 2024, 2:23 pm)soxfanforever I mean he's going through significant illness (plus recent death in the family) and struggling with mental health as a result. I just want him to communicate. Thus I wish him & everyone well, hope for the best, and expect nothing. I don't see any sense in getting worked up over things that are beyond my control. (February 12, 2024, 6:22 am)soxfanforeverThe expectation for someone to tell his work that "they need time off" is not unrealistic. Before he made his subscriptions free, people paid for his services.(February 12, 2024, 4:29 am)SunmistninjaI'm not saying it's wrong to want him to communicate. I just want him to communicate. Imagine you hired someone to fix your car, something in your house, etc. You pay this person. The person then vanishes - without a trace - for a year and a half. Be very honest... if this happened to you, would your first instinct be to say "Nah that's okay"? At the very least, he could have just said "Something personal has happened to me. I will be away for an indefinite amount of time. Hope everyone understands and I appreciate my subscribers". Simple. That's it. --- I want to make it very clear that: 1. I do not mind him being on hiatus now - because his subscription is free and content is no longer behind a paywall - thus implying subscriptions are donations. 2. I do not mind him being on hiatus, because we were already aware that he had issues. What is completely asinine, to me, is that people can defend his previous behavior when so many people paid for his work? I was one of them; I had first subscribed - knowing nothing about this person - and POOF. GONE. I'm supposed to expect this as normal behavior for a subscription service I paid for? | |||||||||||||||||||
