Beginning December 2023, Google will begin to delete accounts that have not been logged in for 2 or more years. And is it no secret that the majorty of past content here are on drives of users who are either no longer active members or only log in sporadically. Be that as it may, a notice is to be issued well in advanced as Google Drives/Photos has been the defacto storage that the site has been reliant on for many years up until recently.

It is also a notice and remindes for individuals to always save content that you may see that is on a drive, whether by downloading it or making a copy on your own personal drive. Again, this will not take effect until December so it is advised to not wait until the very last minute or ignore the notice.

I seriously hope there is enough backlash to this that they reconsider it. But knowing how big corporations are, they won’t care. Even ignoring the whole pregnancy fetish side, this is gonna lead to so much content just being wiped away in an instant.

Unfortunately any backlash wouldn't be justified since it's mainly for security reasons since most old accounts don't have 2 step authorization enabled, and the solution is to just simply login. Although any drive or photo account that hasn't been logged in since 2021 is still in jeopardy and this is more of a notification for those users who are still active.

For those who are no longer around, there's nothing we can do besides archive and preserve the content before December.

I will also add that this will also affect YouTube channels as well. So some classic channels like Dozerpop, old preggo vlog channels, as well as any compilation channels may be in jeopardy of deletion as well.

I only hope this warning does not lie on deaf ears and initiation in preservation is taken.

Google doesn't give two shits about whatever backlash may happen. You could fill a cemetery with all of the things they've killed off despite getting backlash for it. They've done the math and decided that whatever data they've gleaned from these inactive users is no longer profitable vs. maintaining the infrastructure to keep these accounts alive, so the purge is coming.

Besides, didn't they first announce this 1-2 years ago?
