Gender reveal parties/gimmicks

They are #1 controversial (not part of the so-called traditional baby shower that started in the 1950s baby boom anyway), #2 might be misgendering a baby...12 years from now, he or she will come out as the opposite or something else (I came out as genderfluid in my 30s in the 2010s)...and #3 they're becoming dangerous, like a fire caused by an incendiary device balloon with the announcement "It's a boy" last October crashed in a forest, started a fire and 5 Riverside county CA (My Dad is retired in the CDF or CalFire) fighters were killed in the blaze. There wasn't a good way to determine the baby's biological sex until the 2000s when the trend of gender reveals began...it all started in 2008 by a blogger who posted a vid of cutting a cake with pink frosting, now her "daughter" is this gender non-conforming person who wears suits, has short hair and has a "masculine" appearance.

I read there is a campaign to ban them.
It's an excuse for the parents-to-be to have another party and get more free gifts. There's nothing that a gender reveal doesn't do that can't be done at a baby shower.
Another thread that has been politicized, esp. about gender, gender identity and sexism (more likely the baby gender reveals get more hyped up about the baby being a boy than a girl). This trend is going to be out of style and be put into the chest that reads "Fads that were big in the 2010s, but they're no longer cool". I have memories of 1980s-90s childhood when the big debate was "can men attend baby showers?" when they were historically perceived for women-only.

(September 20, 2021, 10:40 am)whargarbleI wasn't able to be determined to be a "boy" or "girl" when I was born in 1980, and it turns out I'm bio male also I identify as genderfluid. The blogger whom shall not be named is infamous for a toxic community on social media, extreme SJW opinions and fights with allies on the center-Left, esp. her vicious snappy comments directed at males, conservatives and Republicans. And I live near the fire caused by a pyrotechnic device to killed like 5 county firefighters, it hit close to the blogger who also lived in So CA.(September 9, 2021, 9:39 pm)IntoPreggos #3 they're becoming dangerous, there's no becoming about it. someone tried to make their own pyrotechnic launcher but made a fucking textbook pipebomb instead and killed the baby's grandmother

If you're going to use explosives to announce that you're having ___, then you're the type of person who shouldn't be having a kid. You're not special, nor smart enough to realize how dangerous it is, especially in a state that is not only short on water, but can catch on fire by just looking at it weird. Announce it on Facebook and call it a day.
Also, the color of a cake or baby clothes doesn't matter when they're going to outgrow them in a few months. Nobody is forcing you to be a male or woman for the rest of your life, let the parents be excited and have what they want to have. If the child decides to change their identity down the road, then so be it. Don't kill anyone's dream of having a boy/girl right from the start.
We never did any of that, but if people want to to each their own. We've done the traditional baby shower route.
Gender reveal parties are a waste of time especially nowadays when there is a strong push to do away with gender. I understand baby shower parties but seriously how much more attention do these people need and to be honest, no one needs to know (or cares) what your baby’s sex is. Just because it can be determined before birth doesn’t mean the entire world needs to know.
What happened to the days when parents waited until the birth to be told by the doctor “It’s a boy/girl.” | |||||||||||||||||||
