BORN 2007: Starring Alison Brie, Kane Hodder, and Joan Severance
(Note: Any actresses to be filled in for a remake? Anybody has seen this film?)

PLOT ("lack thereof"): Mary Elizabeth goes to bed alone one night, still a 21 year old virgin, and wakes up the next morning...pregnant. Possessed by the demon fetus growing within her womb, Mary Elizabeth obeys her homicidal cravings to kill...for the sake of her unborn spawns. Mary Elizabeth's dark transformation, controlled by her unborn demon child, is driven by its dark cravings. Once the child is born there will be hell on earth. From this apparent Immaculate Conception comes edge of your seat terror.

The awful "Born" is a B-movie (actually a Z-movie) that believes that is a great movie. The result is a pretentious and disappointing production, with an incoherent and absurd story without humor and terrible acting and direction. The plot is a complete mess: there is a priest that is a hit-man and former soldier; a demon in existential crisis going to a psychiatric; a father that examines the virginity of his daughter; two female-demons (succubus?) that stand naked like a statue with both hands covering their sexes; a character that is a slut, and only exists to expose her beautiful body. There are many scenes with free and cheap nudity. But the worst is the acting: the unknown lead actress Alison Brie is histrionic, with ridiculous voices and grimaces.

If this film was more like a sort of "indie niche" cross between Rosemary's Baby (as it already rips that off enough) and a somewhat similar horror film of an even crazier but more well-written tone, like say 1987's Angel Heart, I think it would've work as a decent horror flick. Plus better acting, better actors (no has-beens or untalented hacks), an even crazy tone (the film is made as if the filmmakers didn't know if they were going for a jet-black horror comedy or an gloriously gory yet crudely erotic and satanic horror story), shorter running time (seriously 2 hours?!?), and BETTER DIRECTION. I wouldn't get so mad at this movie if it was from TROMA or the Asylum, but people actually put hard earned money into this crap. Real filmmakers need money, whether they be in the indie world or not (as long as they do not overdo it); hacks do not need this much cash.

Yeah, I discovered early on in this movie that the best thing to do is skip to the interesting parts and disregard the rest (95% of it). It made me wonder exactly what you're wondering: how do people get funding for this kind of crap? *I* could make a better movie with these resources. Ridiculous.

I could see a remake of this film working by trying something that's not only new but extremely risky. The story should be set among teenagers or just simply young adults. Not among the constant droves of crap characters of nowadays in films like Twilight or Beautiful Creatures, but a good batch of more well crafted characters. Taking a note from a few recent found footage films, it could be a horror film version of a lost episode of pregnancy related show such as 16 & Pregnant. The show's cameramen and women are following the girl they think is an average everyday girl who got unexpectedly pregnant, but in reality is developing a monster inside her womb.

If that doesn't work, the film could always fall back on the plot it took from Rosemary's Baby.
