There’s one crucial detail you forgot there; the confederates were fighting to defend oppression. They didn’t believe in equality, which makes them comparable to Nazis. If your picture was of Union soldiers coming in and saving the day then it would make far more sense.

When Mussolini invaded Ethiopia in the 1930s it was under a pretext for ending slavery there which he did in fact do and later Winston Churchill prevented the country from readopting the practice.
